supercharger on an inline 6?

I was wondering if anyone has done this, and if they used a roots type, or a paxton. And if there were any kits out there with brackets already made, etc.

Anything is possible if you 've got enough "CUBIC DOLLARS"

Here's a straight 6 ( 292) with a 671 blower. It runs high 9's @ 134 mph in the 1/4 mile.

I don't know anyone who makes a kit, you have to build your
own.

If you're looking at force induction why not look at the turbocharger market? It's easier to turbo an inline than any V motor and turbos dont put such high strain on the crankshaft. Just a thought....

A blower is a blower. It's the manifold and drive kit you'll have to find to make it fit. Good luck!

I think that would be cool to have a built six.
It would be cool to smoke the v8'd with you I -6.

Also here for mud boggs there is the 6 cylinder class and the 8 cylinder class and all the 6 cylinders are stockers.

I agree with the Turbo comment... Try to find a T04E out of the junkyard... get it on there, get a big front mount intercooler, a blow-through carb and haul ass... there was a 292 with a T3/T4 in Hot Rod magazine a little more than a year ago that ran 11s in an old chevy coupe... when the boost is down you get milage, and when it's on you HAUL...

Supposing I do go w/ the turbo (you guys got me thinkin' now), would one of those turbo buick ones work? And i'm a little foggy as to the operation of these, is it all automatic.. wastegate, turbo, hooked to intake manifold, or is there some computer crap...? I suppose the only reason I didn't look into turbos is they mystify me a little.

I would go with a centrifugal type supercharger (paxton or vortec) before I'd use a turbo. It's just my personal prefrence. Paxton may even have a kit for that particular engine.

The turbo is all manually controlled, you can get an adjusting knob for the boost you want and that will run to the wastegate to control it. No computer stuff on turbos. I'd wager a turbo off a GN or a cyclone woudl be perfect for that inline, prolly haul major league arse too!

I haven't been there for a while, but there were some guys at www.inliners.org that had done this.

to make real power you need digital fuel injection. not a TBI but MPFI that is how turbos make power.

remeber the buick turbos back in 81 or 82? POS!!! or how about the turbo 301 in the trans am back in 79? you could HEAR the detonation every time the boost built up. it wasnt until they came out with MPFI that they could really get going

There are a few fast (expensive) carburetor turbocharged 292 street engines running around. If you can keep the boost low, like 5-6 psi, detonation can be controlled without electronics if you build the engine carefully. The low boost offers maybe 275- 300 hp. However detonation on a supercharged engine will destroy the pistons in a second. Or you can adapt on of the many Rootes style blowers available for the small block V-8. This would be an extremely costly project, you could get the same HP out of a Chevy V-8 for a third of the cost of the 292.

I am here to testify that it would cost a MINT to properly turbo or supercharge a six! Sixes cost much more to build than a SBC--my STOCK 235 in my '52 coupe cost over $1400 in parts (no labor) to build, the only extra being $140 for balancing which would be a must for a blown engine. I can build a stock 350 for $700 in parts. I can't imagine what a six build-up for a blower would cost. Forged pistons alone would bankrupt my budget. I like sixes, but it isn't worth it.
