Looks great so far! I'm just in Carson, we should hook up sometime so I can check out your project in person.
Yeah, I didn't decide to weld it all in until afterwards. Next time, for sure. I'm definitely down to meet up sometime. I'm actually going to be moving to the South Bay in the next couple months.

Worked on welding up the back half. I also decided to weld in the rear body drop and I have an idea for the front bracket as well.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

Almost done with one side. I decided that it would look better if I blended the body drop bracket with the step notch. It's not done yet but I'm liking the way it's turning out

After

Looks killer, glad you did it because it kind of stuck out to me. Now it flows really good and looks like it belongs there.

Looking good so far, im glad I got the weld in also, just didnt want the bolts all over the place and have zero chance of ever unbolting it once installed.

Thanks guys, it was a lot of extra work but I think it will be worth it in the end.

Sorry, I should have specified SoCal South Bay not NorCal (Redondo Beach/Manhattan Beach area)

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

Here's a good overall pic of the rear setup now. Hours and hours of work but it was worth it. I started modifying the front body drop brackets. No pics yet but I should be able to make some progress on it this weekend.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

Great work so far- I like all the little details. This might be a little late and maybe you already know. If you use a heavy piece of copper to back the holes when you weld them shut, it makes it a lot easier. The weld won't stick to the copper and it will save a lot of gringing on the back side as it will be smooth and flush. I've got most of my frame holes welded up too- man there was a bunch.

Thanks, yeah I use a copper spoon for some of the larger holes. For the smaller ones I am usually able to get them done by just working my way around. I feel your pain on the number of holes. I'm no where near finished welding on this frame yet.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

So here's an update on the front body drop brackets. Hope you guys like it.

I started off by tack welding the frame horns in place with the brackets still on. Then I removed the bracket and sliced and diced the front horns so I could bend it how I wanted. Once in place, I started welding it up.

I worked on blending in some of the welds, not done yet though.

Then I trimmed down the bracket. I have a little more massaging to do but it's close.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

I made progress on the drivers side body drop bracket. This one took a lot less time since I had learned my lesson on the passenger side.

I've also been thinking about boxing in the notch for a while. Since I spliced two frames together, I was worried about the strength of the front end. I had those old PBFab frame boxing plates so I decided to put them to use. I still have a lot of work left on this but these pictures should give you an idea of what I'm trying to do.

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

It's been a while since I was able to work on the truck. We sold our place, lived in a temp house for a couple months and finally settled in our new house. I got myself a new project (72 Nova) which has also taken some time away from the truck.

Here's a few pics of the new project

Flipped over the frame to start working on the bottom side

Started filling more holes on the bottom side

Also started welding up the bottom side of rear notch

Nice looking Nova, and a beautiful German Shepherd (maybe rottweiler? Looks like a shepherd body, but rottweiler markings on the face). Looks like some nice welding happening on the C10 frame too.

Right on actually, rott/shepherd mix, about 5 months old

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

Glad to see you're back at it, congrats on the house. The Nova looks to be in pretty good shape. I had a 70 years ago, it was an ugly yellow and had 50 lbs of bondo in both rear quarters. Haha it was a real beater.

Back on that frame, I need some inspiration for when I get cranking on mine.

Thanks, love having a backyard. This nova was my brothers first car that he drove in high school. It's been sitting for years so I decided to buy it off him and build it up.

As far as the truck goes, I got some more welding done on the rear notches.

Drivers side is done

Passenger side is almost there

Re: Pink's 68/72 - Dropmember Equipped Build

Not much of an update, just a bunch of welding and grinding lately. There are way too many holes on this thing to fill.

Here's what the back of the step notch underside looked like before.

and after

here's a pic of the other side too

I also picked up this 5.3l & 4l60e combo for the nova.
