truck stalls

OK, so I've never worked on much past basic maintainance and now my '70 C10 w/350 is acting up. I just pulled it out of storage. When I tried to start it I had to turn it over quite a bit. So it finally started but died immediately when I stepped on the gas. Once it warmed up it worked better. I looked at the carb (q-jet) and it's pretty gunky so I shot some carb cleaner in it and tried again. Same thing - balking when I put it in gear.

I'm not the most fearless guy when it comes to tearing something like a carb down and trying a rebuild, but I will if you give me enough encouragement. would a rebuild kit and some cleaner be enough to get it back on the road?

Kinda hard to say, I know, but any help would be appreciated.
