Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

That's why I went the salvage route, so I would have all the e-brake hardware. Because like you when I went looking for the calipers at auto parts stores I had a hard time determining if they came with all the hardware needed for the e-brake. The calipers i found from a salvage yard looked good so I tried them out and they are working great. If you don't want to chance it just pick up a set and use them as a core at a auto parts store. That's what I was going to do.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Is there a writeup on this site of the install of these brackets wirth capipers, lines etc? I'm kind of far out still but want to make sure I know what I'm doing and have the parts before I begin.

I do not have an installation thread but one of my many customers may have something in their build threads.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

CaptainFab do you know if any of the 94-96 B body rear calipers will work? I think the buick roadmaster was basically the same car and could probably get those cheaper at a salvage yard vs camaro or impala parts.

Edit!! I stand corrected. The 94-96 roadmasters did not have rear disc brakes .

The '94-'96 Caprice 9C1's did have rear disc brakes also.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but it doesn't matter if i have the original 63 rear end or one from a 73-87 for your brackets to work, right? I just have to order the brackets for either the F body or the b body. Thanks.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

If you have an original '63 12 bolt, you can not bolt on any rear disc brackets. The '63 had backing plates pressed onto the axle tubes. So there is no flange to bolt any brackets to. If you want rear discs, you will have to weld some caliper brackets onto the axle tube. The bolt on backing plates started in '64.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

Thanks for clearing that up. I have an 83 c10 that has all the front and the rear end i just wanted to know if it was worth swapping out the rear. I'm trying to locate some rear calipers at this time. When i do I'm gonna buy your rear caliper and power steering brackets. Thanks again.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I have the setup on two vehicles and it works well. I can answer questions if needed, shoot me a PM if you want details. Park brake works, you have to make some adjustments, but it works. If you do not have calipers, go to the yard and get a set. The new ones do not come with the little hockey pucks and the GM number is absolete. I have ordered from autozone and they did not come complete even though the description said it would be, still didn't have the hockey pucks. I can do pics if needed but please PM me. I am going to change my brake lines to the smaller size for the rear. I think this may make a difference, all new vehicles are like this, so why not. Brakes work with the different brake lines, but it may make them better.

On the bottom of the mounting bracket there is a long bolt, on the bolt there is a round balancing/dampner (looks like a hockey puck) that bolts to it. I got mine from complete assemblies. You won't get it from parts stores.

Have you tried running without those 'dampners'? I just wonder if they are absolutely necessary.

Nope, never tried.
I get complete assemblies, sometimes you cannot even get the park brake parts from the parts store replacements. Moving the spring to the new caliper is a pain.

Okay, I give. I've been looking over the thread and trying to figure out which year Camaro calipers will work with the Rear Disc Brake Bracket kit. I'm sorry if I missed it but if someone can help I would greatly appreciate it.

Yeah I feel your pain. 4th gen f-body (up through '97) calipers with '96 Impala rotors I believe.

Glock supplied a parts list with his brackets, let me see if I can find it... attached!

Hey, thanks a lot for the list. I'm gonna try to hit the LKQ this weekend and see about getting the calipers before ordering the brackets from the Capt.

Yes,
I pull everything I can (except the rotors) and also I take the mounting tab that is bolted to the car for the rubber brake line, comes right off. The camaro calipers have the park brake built with the calipers. I buy new hoses and cables, but it doesn't hurt to have the old ones if needed.

Some parts stores have a sticker that asks for the old mounting bracket in with the core.

Also remember, the Z28's are the only ones that have rear disks, the regular camaro's are drum brakes.

You can validate, but every V6 camaro I saw had drums in the back.

Also, looks like Autozone udated their webpage and this is why you need to go get yard parts. I have recieved full calipers with the mounting plate from parts stores and I have also got with the same part number just a caliper.

http://www.autozone.com/brakes-and-t...p-5-7l-sfi-ohv

Here is what you are looking for from a parts store for a complete assembly with mounting bracket.

http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....035908&jsn=682

This one has the park brake mounting bracket (preferred one to get). Big spring is a pain in the rear to get on if you have to move it.

Will calipers on a firebird or trans am from the same period work as well? I figure they are basically the same car under the skin.

Rock auto says yes for Firebird. They also list them from 93-97.

Re: Camaro Caliper Brackets

I purchased a set of beat calipers and e-brake cables on ebay for $60 and then sprung for the Centric reman calipers. They have a $75 each core but are $55 each after core return.

One caliper came fully loaded but the other was missing the vibration damper and was deformed by the piston seal so I'm exchanging it. They aren't listed as including the damper so I may have just gotten lucky.
