Re: rare 1964 jetfire

Cool car. How big of a hassle would it be to clean up and store the original engine and then restore the rest of the car using the engine of your choice? But leave it so the next owner could put it back to original if they desired. That would keep the cost of restoring and finding the rare parts down. With the work that you do the body and the rest would be in superb condition.

Re: rare 1964 jetfire

You have to leave that car stock. From the quick google search I did there weren't very many made and about a dozen exist that are drivable. I needs to be restored not hotroded.

Re: rare 1964 jetfire

Hard to find parts for. I'd mod it myself but I am no purist. I tried selling parts off a 63 Cutlass I use to have and very few takers. I got to a give away just pay shipping plea, hate to scrap the stuff. Guess what? much got scrapped.
4 speed stuff as well as turbo stuff is sought after. Little to no repo parts!

http://classicoldsmobile.com/forums/ (nonhog there also)

then there is http://oldsjetfire.com/ its small and slow.

Cool resto here... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...ection.924403/

I think he is also on the other 2 forums, and always looking for parts.

My thoughts buy it cheap!

Re: rare 1964 jetfire

I rarely ever post, but this car is worth posting about. It is your car and you should do what you want with it regardless of what anyone says. That being said- I would like to offer my 2 cents... I love cutting stuff up, and everything I own is cut up- but none of it is rare or unique. This car is a unique piece of history regardless of whether it is valuable or not. And it appears very complete. Aluminum block, factory turbo, factory meth injection- in 1964. Too cool! That is a hood I would definitely look under at a car show. If you put an LS motor in it, you will be just like everybody else (I'm not an LS hater either- It is my favorite powerplant, but it is not unique). The car will lose its novelty factor. I would absolutely love to find a car like that and do a factory resto. Great Find!

Re: rare 1964 jetfire

I would make it run and drive , clean up the interior enough to drive it
and just wash the outside of it .

Re: rare 1964 jetfire

In the mid 1980's, i had a chance to buy a nice one for $400. I could tell it had low compression in one cylinder so I passed. Someone did buy it and had it restored. It was white/black interior.

BTW, IIRC, the Olds had a conventional transmission placement instead of the Buick/Pontiac rear mounted Corvair transmission.
