Shoulder strap year?

Little confused I have a 67 with lap belts. But also have the holes ready for shoulder belts.
Did they make the hole and threads anyway in 67?

Re: Shoulder strap year?

All 67-72 trucks have the threaded pillar for shoulder belts.

Re: Shoulder strap year?

I have heard the shoulder belts were optional. I suspect they were a rare option. I've never seen any, though some may have been posted on this board. Last year I finally ditched my oem lap belts for 3-points from a board vendor. Makes me feel just a bit safer.

Re: Shoulder strap year?

Shoulder belts in this vintage were static only. That means they would be tight fulltime, not flex with movement, as in later inertia-reel type safety belts.
So if you impacted a wall at speed, you would probably dislocate your shoulder -- although that may be preferable to being impaled by the steering column.
Shoulder belts for window passengers [+driver] were included in the 1 JAN 1968 Federal legislation.

Re: Shoulder strap year?

67 Shoulder belt. I bought these off a board member here. This January I acquired a 67 CST that came factory equipped with A85 SHOULDER BELTS. They are currently missing and the estate I purchased the truck from says they will look for any seatbelts in the garage. If it turns out to be a deadend at least I will have the pictured belts to install.

Thanks, truck had the gun rack, I added the rope lol. I don't know about a $400 console. They are fairly cheap out here.

Re: Shoulder strap year?

I bought these NOS a few years ago. Yes, they are tight (as tight as you want them) but the newer belts also get tight as soon as they detect the vehicle having rapid deceleration, like when you run into something. So if you want to reach over to the glove box, you have to unbuckle the shoulder belt.
