1950 AD Which AC Kit?

I found some old threads but manufacturers change things frequently so I thought I would get your current opinions. I have a 1950 AD, SBC 383 w/Sanderson block hugger headers, GM performance serpentine system w/long water pump & GM AC compressor, 700r4 & stock firewall. Which AC kit do you all recommend and why? Thanks in advance!

Re: 1950 AD Which AC Kit?

It's hard to go wrong with Vintage air because they have vehicle specific under dash units or the a bit more "universal' lower cost units and have brackets and clutches and pulley that will match your exact setup without having to go out and hunt down the other pieces unless you Want to match a specific pulley so your whole belt system all has the same look. If you snagged an oem unit out of a wrecking yard that may not be an issue but if you spent the big $$$$ on a billet setup it may be a big issue.

Word is that they have a real good tech line to answer questions and that is real important to me. Being able to call the guys who actually make the units is a big plus when you run into an issue and need help.

I have the old air products hurricane air, not installed yet but is made for our trucks. You can choose the manual control or electronic control.

A lot of people do like the Old Air units.

Re: 1950 AD Which AC Kit?

I put the Vintage Air in my Cherokee Chief, using the universal kit and getting the parts I needed.

I've got the Surefit Vintage Air unit for the 48 that has been test fit. If fits very nicely, and is a bolt in unit.

I looked at Old Air and Vintage for both vehicles, and wound up with the Vintage Air. Their tech line has been great.

Re: 1950 AD Which AC Kit?

We have an under dash Vintage Air unit in our 48. I'm thinking that I will do something different in the 49 that we are building. My biggest issues is that the "low" fan setting isn't low at all. The other thing is that it "sweats" bad enough to soak the carpet. I realize that we are in Georgia and the heat and humidity can get a little crazy, but when I asked the VA guys about it a SEMA last year they just told me "That's just the way it is." Not a very good response in my book considering what these things cost. But just my 2¢

Thanks No Handle Sam. I haven’t heard of a condensation issue with VA before. Anyone else have this problem?
