71 Short Bed

Getting started on a new winter project. Last winter was the 62 Ford Unibody, now it's back to the favorite body style Chevy. Bought this truck a year ago, let it sit in the extra hay barn until I was ready for it. Has a throttle body injected 350 and a 700R4. The previous owner did some sanding on the front clip.....to bare metal and then let it sit out in the rain. So I had to go to the parts stockpile and find some good replacements. Plans for now include either a 3/5 or 4/6 drop, shaving the trim holes (all the trim was already gone), 18's and 20's or 17's all the way around. Unsure on paint, something subtle probably. Project on a budget but should be a fun driver when its done.

Re: 71 Short Bed

to the forum! That last pic you have there is the coolest. It could be on the cover of something. I just got a '71 myself, I'm gonna follow along with your build. And remember, everyone here loves pictures. You can never have to many.

Re: 71 Short Bed

The 71 Cheyenne, will keep this one in full trim forever......paint and body is in great shape from a repaint in the early 90's. But someday when it gets redone (years from now) it will get smaller mirrors on and the bed rails. I took off the bug shield since this picture. Looks MUCH better without it!

Re: 71 Short Bed

I haven't done much work to the 71 short bed in the last week, had to watch the K-State Wildcats beat up on the Jayhawks a little bit on Saturday and spent Sunday getting tires put on the wife's car and working on a '64 F-100 4x4 I used to have in high school. Dad has it now and it's been sitting for a year.

Looking for the best deal on a tailgate for the short bed. The original is decent, but has a bow in it. I drive within 5 minutes of LMC in Kansas City almost monthly, but it seems like Classic Parts and LMC are about the same in price. Any difference in quality? Or do they come from the same supplier?

Re: 71 Short Bed

Work on the truck has been slow the past couple weeks, but I got the new cab corners in and some dents pulled. Sprayed some 2k primer on last night and finally remembered to bring my camera with me today.

Re: 71 Short Bed

Here's a picture of my '84. It's been an off and on project for awhile. I'm getting ready to sell it so I can keep moving on the SWB some more. Headed to the World of Wheels car show in Kansas City this weekend looking for some ideas and to dream a little.Name: IMG_0062.jpg
