Can I narrow down a google board search?
So I used the board search feature and narrowed it down as far as I could. Advanced, typed in NOS, titles only. I was on the parts board and hit the search. Lots of NOS stuff popped up. But a lot of stuff from even the first few for sale pages didn't.
Normally I use the google search function for most things, just not when I want a very narrow search. So how can I use google search and only search one area of the board and be specific, as in search thread titles only?

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
I have never found a way. Even with the advanced search I typed in "67-72 NOS parts for sale" and get very few hits even though I know there are plenty more. I can usually find what I might be looking for but it may take several tries with different key words

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Google doesn't have the means to support searching a subforum, although you can limit the scope to just this forum by using this as one of your search terms: site:67-72chevytrucks.com
In this case, you'd be best to use the subforum's specific search, but open Advanced Search. Note: You'll find this 'Search This Forum' dropdown in a few different places, and it's pertinent to use the correct one. However, you can change the forum you're searching once you get into the advanced search area, and toggle whether to search its sub-forums ("children") once in there. Once inside, put in your term (must be more than 2 letters) and choose the option to only search titles. Edit: Disregard. I misread your post and it appears you're doing exactly what I'm explaining here. So, to be clear, you only want to search for specifically for posts with the acronym "NOS" and nothing else?

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Yep, doing exactly as you guys suggested as far as using the board search function.
Give it a shot and you will see. Use NOS and search titles only. I know of at least one posted today that hasn't come up in several attempts. We have the swap meet coming up and Im trying to decide if its worth it to haul a couple of NOS pieces down ... trying to figure out pricing. Using the board sales area is a good starting point.

Mark
I just found it. Dont use the site wide one, use this one while you are in the parts forum main page .

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
How about this ...
If you put the name of the forum you want to search through in quotes, you can at least narrow down results further. For example, to only search the 67-72 parts board, you could use (note where the quotes are): site:67-72chevytrucks.com "The 1967-1972 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Parts Board" NOS It's imperative you must quote in the subforum, forcing Google to have that exact phrase on the page it finds. It's not bulletproof, but it's close enough. You could also put critical must-have terms in quotes, like "NOS", if those absolutely are critical to the search. Also do this with critical phrases. Then click 'Tools' on the results page and filter by recent time/date and maybe All Results options. Sadly, Google removed the "sort ascending"/"sort decending" options

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Doing it that way brought up these which is way more than I have ever gotten and I only typed in NOS

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Make sure to still hit advanced search though as it brings up quite a few more than the normal search

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Oh, @CG, when I say "quote the forum name", I mean literally taking the subforum name copy/pasted from the complete forum list, take off any spaces from the beginning/end, then tossing in quotes, and add it into your search phrase at Google with the site:67-72chevytrucks.com term. Example of what I'd be quoting, pick the exact subforum name like:

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Richard that is the way I was doing it and if you take a look at your screen shot you can see that there is at least one for sale post front page with NOS in the title right now that doesn't show up on the list. There are others as you scroll through all the pages.
Shifty I will give that a shot and see what happens.

Re: Can I narrow down a google board search?
Hey now! I never said that =). I use search all the time and always recommend it.
I was just seeing if using google could I really drill down. Every night before I go to bed I open the board search and thank it for all it did for me today, and I wish it sweet dreams ... haha!
