Am I missing something?

Been cutting some of the floor out on my 70 C10 and noticed the 2 holes in the chassis rails (in picture), they line up with the trans crossmember, Looks like there should there be some fixings through them?

Thanks

I'll check the 1/2 ton bare frame I have in the morning and see what is there. I think it should have bolts in it.

Thumbs up Re: Am I missing something?

you sir are correct, a lot of times they don't get put back because the cab mounts get smashed down and it's a ***** to put them back in.

Thanks as always, I think I will tack weld some nuts on from the top to facilitate fixing the bolts from below as I suspect getting to them is rather tricky as Jerry has alluded to!!

Re: Am I missing something?

Wrap a piece of masking tape on the nut. That will allow a box end wrench to hold it while starting the bolt.

Do you not recommend tacking the nuts on? I figured it will make life easier if i ever have to remove the bolts

Re: Am I missing something?

The early trucks had this end piece riveted onto the cross-member.
The only method to get it out was to hammer one side forward and the other back. This spread the frame slightly and knocked all kinds of dirt and crap loose in the process.
Later ones were bolted.
To get these out easier, I just loosened the bolts, at the cross-member, and removed the ones from the frame. Made it a lot easier to complete the R&R.
The bolts came in from the top and I didn't have to remove them from between the frame and cab to get the cross-member out.
I never did determine exactly when this change was made.

Nothing wrong with welding to nuts to the top of the frame. Typically one doesn't have access to pull this off like you do.

Was this truck working without the crossmember attached? Trying to figure that part out.

Ive only done about 50 miles in it since purchase but seemed to drive ok for a 53 year old truck, there are fixings on the bottom of of the crossmember too which are in place which was why I wasnt sure if top ones were supposed to be there or not.
