Hi,I'm new here......many questions/pictures

Hello everyone,

I am a the happy owner of a '70 C-10 shortbed.... Pics below
my 5 year old son has nicknamed "The Spookinator"
Probably because she's a bit scary, loud & cobbled together from
a multitude of parts.

For instance.... I found out the 10 bolt rear end is probably from
an 88 chevy when I had to find wheel cylinders for it.
Plus the 6 bolt lug nuts/studs are much bigger diameter & they left
the leaf spring mounts on.

Don't know what the beds off of either...
it has a fuel door on the passenger bed side that says diesel fuel only!
Did they sell a 67-72 diesel?

& another thing... the chrome script on the glove box door it says tarliner
I ask the previous owner if it was a Ford Starliner script without the "S"
& he said he didn't think so.
All he knew was it used to be an old New Philidephia Ohio township truck.

Would that explain the heavyduty rear bumper?
& is that a 5th wheel hitch in the floor? On a short bed?
& What's the big hole on the drivers side cab roof pillar?

Other stuff... Think it's a 76-77 250/3 speed also because it's stamped TAT
& can someone PLEASE show me a photo of how the manual choke cable mounts to the engine.
Is there a bracket yhat bolts to the block or head?

Anywhoo, I'm starting to ramble.....
It's just a cool old truck that I plan on trowing money at instead of spending it at the bars or a therapy

I need to replace the entire floor, radiator cross member & the bed floor at
the very least.

& I'd like to trade/sell that rear bumper for a stock one.
Find a 292 to rebuild with some mild performance bits.

Thanks for reading all this & for any advise, help & parts in the future.

Dave

Welcome to the site! You will find a wealth of info here from the members. I regret to say that I'm new as well and can't provide you the answers to your questions except to say the hole in the bed doesn't look like any 5th wheel hitch I seen before.

Truck looks like a great start for nice project. Keep the pics coming.

Justin

Welcome
Looks like an old D.O.T. or forestry truck with the hole in the pillar for a big old antenna!Your option sheet pic is too blurry to read, is there anything on there about aux radio? Although most of that stuff is/was done at motorpools after fleet purchases.Stinks that you have so much rust across the top of the windshield, but there are always guys parting out trucks on this site that you should be able to get one close to home if/when you go looking. Good luck on your build!

Re: Hi,I'm new here......many questions/pictures

Welcome to the board! There's no doubt that you have a mutt there (says the guy who put '97 rearend, NP transmission, and military hummer diesel in a '67 C-30) We like mutts around here! As for the fuel door, that's custom. Your truck would have had a in cab fuel tank, so the door, and your tank came from something else. As for the rearend, that is probably a later Chevy 4X4 rearend. Most Chevy vans would have been 5 lug. Tarliner is most likely a Starliner missing the S as you originally thought. The bed floor looks to be totally modified. The bed is mounted too far back also, which probably happened when the new floor was put in. The gap between the bed and the cab is too wide. That would be an easy fix by drilling new holes or slotting the current ones. On the choke set up, you should post that 67-72 message borad. I'm sure someone will have pics of that. I've never seen a rear bumper like, but these trucks came with several different style step bumpers. You will find that this is the most helpful truck board in the world, MAYBE THE UNIVERSE! Good luck with your new toy.

BTW, if you were closer, I'd give you a running-but-tired 292 for scrap value. No one seems to want it, and its in my way. If no one gets it soon its heading to the scrap yard as bad as I hate to.

Re: Hi,I'm new here......many questions/pictures

Thanks for the input guys.

The build sheet on the glove box door is
pretty hard to read.
Luckily most of the option code numbers are still readable....
Nothing to notable except for the
Heavy duty rear-4650AC
Heavy duty Clutch-4MOIA
Of course the rear end has been changed & probably the
clutch also.
Anyone know what 9620AA Govener High is?

There is no rear gas tank... just the filler door in the bed side.
I've not been able to find pictures of a 67-72 short bed with
a filler door in the bed,but they had to have made one because
I've got one.

Anyway, I'm sure having a lot of fun digging through this forum,
junk yards,Craigslist,E-bay & swap meets just getting it road worthy.

thanks again & hope to see you at the mid Ohio mini meet
