Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Started work on the rocker/step/door piller/inner cab corner last night. Just a rough fit at this point. Will be welding in the inner cab corner, then door pillar patch before tacking in the rocker to test with with door/fender installed before I'm happy with its placement. Nice to see that big rusty panel outta there : ).

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Almost done with the rocker/step/door pillar/inner cab corner replacement. I left the step just screwed in so I could fit the door and fender to make sure all was good. Will get it welded in place this weekend.

Oh yeah, and santa brought me an early xmas present. 2002 LS1 with custom cam/heads/tuning and built/stalled auto trans with 20k miles on it out of an insurance auction Camaro. Score! Can't wait to get the body work done now.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Love your progress, and love your engine. If I am not mistaken, your engine should be a LS6 (the corvette engine). I will find my book, but I believe in 2002, as production was winding down on the Camaros, they started using LS6 blocks, heads, and Intake. Look at the casting number on the lower front of the Passenger head. If it is 243, those are the LS6 heads. No matter what, you will love the engine.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Its got some 241 heads on it but they've had some sort of work done as the overtemp plugs have been added.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Got the passenger side rocker/step ect all welded in place. Through a little primer on to keep any rust at bay for now. Started work on the driver side. Nice little surprise in the cowl on this one : ) but going much quicker now that I know how to attack it.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Thanks for the great pics... I am just getting ready to do the same thing in the next week or 2! Patches for floors, floor supports, steps/rockers, outer/inner cowl and lower hinge pockets.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Finished up the cowl repairs on the driver side. Just need to weld in the fender mount bracket and then its on to the floorboard. Much happier with the cowl patch on this side.

Re: Dunce's 59 Fleetside build

Finished the driver floor patch and started on the inner cab corner/rocker/step. Currently have the rocker fit so not much left to do there. Then I have a few small various things to fix before the BIG one... the dreaded complete rear outter cab panel : ). Should be fun drilling out a million spot welds. Actually other than time, it shouldn't be all that hard.
