Quiet muffler needed - any recommendations?

Looking to replace the rusted one, would like something quiet. It’s just a 1963 C20, 292, 4speed. Cheaper the better.

Hoping someone here has found something that may fit the bill. Looks like a 2” pipe, however, I can always use an adapter.

The secret to quiet mufflers is honestly the bigger the better, and avoid straight through versions as a general rule.

To that I would add a resonator roughly 2/3's the length of your muffler. Even cheap glass packs do quite well as a resonator.

A year ago I picked up a brand F 6.2 muffler for $9, and a promise to haul it away from a 3/4 ton truck. It was very quiet on my bolt on 350 with just a turn down. I stuck a small glass pack on it, and it was stealth. Although it was just at idle, and me stabbing the gas.

Also a larger diameter pipe does not nessacarily mean more noise. Muffler design does more then let's say 2-3 inch pipe sizes, but typically you can get a slight bump in power. Provides the muffler is not the same muffler for 2-3 inch pipes.

I had a 250 inline 6 in my 71 GMC and I put a Cherry Bomb Turbo muffler on it and it was cheap, like $30, and it was fairly quiet also. I mean it had a small rumble, but when I drove by you on the highway, you couldn't even me go by, at least that's what my buddies complained about. "Quiet" is a relative term. I only had about 500 miles on it and took it off for a V8 with duals. Too bad you're on the other side of the world or I'd give it to you. It was a 2" pipe also.

I havnt tried them yet but I have a set of walkers superquite highflow mufflers...i also have a set of dynamax knockoffs like are on my C30, but longer...I'm gonna try them both when I get the truck running and see which I like better

the guy next door didnt know i was plowing snow at 6am in the morning unless he was up to watch . he said my muffler is real nice and quiet for people trying to sleep .

truck is a 1ton 4x4 with a 250hp 350 sbc engine . single 3" in/out muffler .


walker stainless steel quiet flow series . . . heads up it does rust but not near as fast as reg mufflers .

Maybe your local muffler guy can make you a good deal on a factory muffler that he pulled off a newer truck when someone got a cat back system or whatever. Maybe even a pull it yourself junkyard. Heck sometimes I even see factory systems dumped on the sides of country roads where losers dump their garbage.

Cherry bomb or glass packs are definatly not the ticket. I have used them as resonators before as was mentioned.

Cadillac mufflers are what I've used in the past when I wanted quiet.

I think this is the one i used, from summit $26.99. This was on a single exhaust 350 and its really quiet.
