Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
More progress! The floor is finally going in and it fit awesome! One test fit then took it out and prepped it for welding. I stood the cab up on end then basically just dropped it in. I clamped the rear of the floor to the cab then flipped the cab upside down and made sure The inner rockers lined up with the old rockers then i clamped those in place and moved on to lining up the firewall. There was some slight tweaking of the firewall for the seams to meet the floor but it wasn't a big deal. Pics are worth a thousand words so i will just keep posting pics!

So a couple questions....
Have you ever done this before cause your making it look easy.. Are you using a Mig or a spot welder?

Back at it! I had a good productive weekend as i got the Rockers and Cab corners done! I also got some dash work in that i will post some pics of later. Most of the pics i took were of the pass side rockers because once i got going i forgot to take pics! These first few pics are removal and prep.

Rust gone! Rocker and cab corner on! I had to spend a little extra time on the gaps since i cut the entire rear pillar out but after fitting the door a dozen times they turned out nice and even!

Fantastic work! I wish I was confident enough (read qualified enough) to do the metal work you're doing. Looks like it'll be super solid when you finish with this kind of great work.

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
wow... nice work so far!
that's a lot of spot welds to remove. are you using a spot weld cutter or just drilling through everything with a normal drill bit? after that many i'm sure you have an opinion on what's the best tool. i'd be curious on any thoughts you have.

What type of spot drill are ya using? I have a cheepo HF one but the pilot is a drill that is too lone, i know there are better.

Yes there is a lot of spot welds to remove and I have tried a lot of different styles of cutters over the years! I don't like the cutters that require a pilot or cuts past the panel to be removed! That just means more welding to fill another hole. What I use is a double sided spur point bit (I will attach a pic) and you can cut the spot welds off without damaging the backing material. If you get the hang of it you can walk the bit and chase the spot weld when there not exactly round or if you have spot welds that are close together. I use the 10mm bit for vehicles from the 70s or older (heavy gauge steel with large spot welds) and I use a 8mm bit for 80s and up with thin gauge metal and small spot welds. Hope that info might help out someone getting ready to tackle some metal work!!! |

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
I finally got a chance to tackle the pass side fender as it was pretty rotten! The front cup was shot and the opposite bottom had quite the hole in it! I was lucky though that the inner structure was pretty good! Since I've started this thread i find myself taking a lot more pics so its tough to choose what to post so heres a bunch.

Re: 67 C10 "Green Gobblin" straight from the field!
I just found this thread, nice work, truck is gonna be solid as new. As a guy that has been in the body shop business for over 40 years I will tell how I remove rusted /damaged panels. Instead of drilling all those welds I use a 1/4" thick 3" diameter grinding disc on my die grinder to grind the weld on the damaged or rusted side down to the save panel. It is twice as fast as drilling and your spot weld cutters will last twice as long if just using them on panels that are being reinstalled. I am not saying your way is wrong but just a tip that has worked for me.
