I want to make a dually out of a long bed.

I need to know from what vehicle I can rob the dually rear end out of that will work under a stock long bed 67-72. I believe it needs to be narrower than a stock dually...like a gruman van or something.

Does anyone have any info on this??????????

Thanks

You can use the dually rear end from a 67-72, which I call cab & chassis width. Your outer tires on the duals will stick out very slightly, and your inner duals will be tucked in.
Cab/chassis trucks from 67 up to 91 (old body 73-87 style) will have rear ends that will work as far as leaf spring spacing.
You will have to modify your inner wheel tubs in the bed to run a cab/chassis dually rear. One drawback to this is that you no longer have 4 feet between the tubs; something to think about if hauling sheet goods.

That is a cool truck but it needs two more doors to be just right!

Re: I want to make a dually out of a long bed.

Heres a few pics of my bed, the 14 bolt rear I am using is a standard 1 ton rear so its a little wider than a cab and chassis rear. Mine uses the stepside fenders and has been tubbed, I'm in the process of changing to the larger 3 1/2" brake shoes for much better stopping power.
I may also switch to cab & chasiss hubs to tuck the tires in 2" more but I'll have to wait and see how the tires fit when its back together.

Rob,
I would love to see a profile shot of the side of your bed, just want to get an idea of how wide your step-dually-side fenders look from the rear.

Is this the one that is getting the new wheels??? That is going to look great!

Chris, Yes this is the truck that the 19.5s are going on.
The fenders dont stick out as far as some I've seen, just enough to clear the tires.

The wheels are American Alloys in 19.5 x 6 and the tires are Cooper 8R C-140s
