Trade 402 for 71 camaro

alright guys i own a 71 camaro with a running 350 with 400 transmission, rebuilt carb, new plugs new wires. Ok i have owned it for about 2 months, This thing is pretty rough. I put it up for sale and i have a guy interested, but he doesnt have any money, He wants to trade a 402 block with matching heads, brand new water pump, and maybe some brackets but that is it no intake carb exhaust manifolds no crank no pan nothing. I told him he could have the camaro complete for 750 dollars as it sits now. Or i said i can pull the motor and tranny and give you the body for 300. I thought that was a pretty fair deal, but he says he would like an even up trade for the car complete he said he would throw in a 79 ford fairmont or something (not interested in that at all)
I would like to move the car, but i cant give it away for a block and some heads that would need to be redone anyways. What is a bare block and heads worth on something like that. any advice is appreciated.
thanks
John
I will attach pics of both the car and the block he wants to trade for so you guys can see.
Ok sorry for making this not clear but i would NEVER trade my car for that kind of deal. I just merely was asking what would be the going price on a block and etc so i could deal some kind of partial trade. But I think this guy wants to get something for nothing, Well who doesnt but i was taken aback when he wanted to do straight up trade. I am all for giving someone a deal but please do not insult me

thanks

Well, IMHO, I would NEVER make a trade like that. You'd be getting hosed. A block and heads isn't worth 750 bucks, no matter which way you toss it. If you look around, you can get a complete BB, that needs a rebuild, for less than that.

Just my $.02

No mains on the block? That means you'll have to get it line-bored. That block looks fairly rough too...

WAY not worth it.

Without the main caps that block is a boat anchor . I'm not seeing much return for your trade. $100 for the heads as a core maybe. The block is worthless without the caps. It would cost you more to buy caps and have them line bored with the block then the block would be worth if it had caps already.

Hell, I'd give you $750 for the Camaro if you were nearby.

Ill give you some low down LOL-I have 15 BBC motors right now,a Big Block block isnt worth alot unless its right year for someones 65-9 Camaro,Chevelle,or Vette.a truck or Impala block isnt worth much, unless it was a 427 Impala block.some 65 motors with a 961 casting are thickwall motors.but looking at the picture the block obviously is seasoned which actually is good.one that is rusty and CAN be bored is a better foundation but missing the main caps it will need to be line bored between caps and that price,i would take the block for free, youd be better of buying one.the heads arent worthy alot if regular truck heads but you never know post the casting numbers the average set of used cores go for around $100 but some numbers are desirable.I sell Complete 396-402's from truck less the brackets and pulleys, for $250 thats a core that hasnt been tore apart with crank, cam all the bolts, intake, pan, etc but less all the exterior bolt on,if he produces short water pump AC brackets and PS Pump and brackets, alt brackets, pulleys then id do it.but from the picture you produced id say that motor is worth about $100 without knowing casting numbers.you can email me if you want to know any big block info.or if you end up doing the trade i have everything to make that motor complete frm the mains, the crank, intake, pan, and etc.Good Luck-Rat

After looking at pics again the Buick ralley wheels on your camaro are probably worth more but check the number on that block, and the heads, its hard to tell from the pic but th look like the large oval passanger car heads.I sold a 67 block and got $800 because of the numbers and it needed a sleeve.he was more than happy to get the right number/date for his car.

They look like large oval heads, out here they would go for about a hundred bucks. the block is worthless. From the pic i dont think they are truck heads. i think they are 1971 large ovals.

hey guys
Well i have talked to the guy and I believe he thinks the block and heads are made out of gold.... Needless to say he got pretty nasty with me really quick because i didnt want to do the trade, but then he made it seem like he didnt want the car in the first place. He got nasty in a hurry but i tried not to pick apart his stuff he had, like he done to mine. I think he felt he would be doing me a favor if he took it off my hands. This is what he said in one of his emails.

See the car will keep getting worse because the rust wont stop but the block
will not change and will hold its vale overtime to where the car will not
unless work is done to it.

So i purpose this offer and this offer only, i will trade all the following
parts i sent your pictures of plus the brackets for the power steering and
alternator becausr thats all i can find now. The car is worth nothing more
then that to me because the car is extremely rough

Great good work guy keep on trucking... Oh well.
thanks for your help guys
John

That guy is a dumbass. Those second generation Camaros up to 72 had real clean lines and make great street machines. So its got crappy paint and some surface rust. BooHoo ! A 71 in as straight condition as that wouldnt get much more than $1200 or so around here but it wouldnt take long. I'd start by stripping everything down to the metal and working the kinks out and squirting some blood red lacquer, throw a decent motor and rear end in it , some good tires and rims and a little interior work and maybe a RS front grilll assy and boom. 3 months later she's on the road with about $5k total into it.

engine swap

jig- that's a sucker deal, don't do it! ( I think you probably were thinking that by now judging from the other replies you got) Sell the car if you're not too stuck on it, keep looking for an engine, one will come along sooner or later.
