I dont have a link but i always wanted to chrome my hinges. Wont the chrome start chipping after the spring expands and contracts?

thats true it would expand and contract but you see plenty of chromed hood hinges/springs at car shows/cruise-ins.a good plating process shouldn't be like a paint which would flake/peel if not prepared right.i dont know anyone w/suggestions?

I had my hinges powder coated, but want to put chrome springs on. I have had no luck finding a vendor for them either. I see a lot of them so I know they are available. I don't think I have a plating place anywhere around here....

I've been looking for chromed hood hinges for a couple of years now. I don't believe there is a place to buy them already done up. I've bought a few things on E-bay chromed for our year of trucks and dropped them e-mails and asked if they had any intentions of doing hinges, (hood latch also) Never received a reply. I contacted a few platers, and they wanted like $75.00 a piece to do them and that's not including the springs. I don't know if I want them that bad?????

So if anyone finds anything else out, LET US ALL KNOW..

RON

after doing some more research on the chroming of the hood hinges/springs,i'm thinking more along the lines of going w/ the powder coating route.the p.c. i'm talking of also produces a shiny look to them ,just not quite the brillance of chrome.what the hell,i'm not looking to shave my beard in the reflection anyhow!onje of the guy's at a local chrome plating comp. said that chroming the springs would really not be such a good idea anyhow as like was said by someone b-4 in this same thread, the expanding and contraction of the spring would cause cracking and /or flaking. he said that it would be ok to do the hood hinge and latch assembly's though.anyhoo,i'm calling some powder coating places tomorrow to get some prices.i'll let you guy's know what i find out.later.

The chroming will not chip or peel if you have a good chrome job done ! Usually the going price for a fair (and i will explain "fair" later on) good chroming job is around 150.00 each hinge. I have had prices of up to 300.00 each ,now, that was with a company that had a spring streacher to get the chrome all the way down and all the way around the coil spring. To much for me,so i thought about the peeling on the coil springs myself and went to the "fair" priced company. The company that was 150.00 didn't have a spring streacher,so there for the chroming didn't get all around the and inside the coil spring and there for i didn't have to worry about the peeling and i think my hinges turned out pretty nice !
