WHAT TO DO?? I have a few too many Suburbs - Need Some Input

Fellow Suburban Guys,
I have come to the realization that I have a few too many Suburbans, if that is possible (my Dear Wife says way too many). Not gonna be able to build all of them --- may as well sell to get more $ to finish the two I am building. Whatever, anyway, I just sold one three weeks ago and have probably 3 or 4 more that I will be letting go.
My problem is one that I bought three years ago in GA (now in AZ), it is the most complete of the 25 or so I have owned. It is 65 GMC Custom and has all three seats with orig covers, V6, automatic, P/S, P/B, all four window latches (still in place), owner's manual, orig title (Iowa), bills of sale and protect-o-plate as well as lots of rust. My issue is ---- do I part it out or try and sell for someone to restore with documentation. Probably more money by parting out but would sell for less if someone is willing to tackle the rust problems --- nothing that can't be repaired -- just a lot of work and money.
Looking for some input here. I'll post a few pics.
Others to be sold shortly: 1964 Chevy 4X4 350 4-speed clam shell, 1963 Chevy six 4-speed barn door, 1965 Chevy 4-speed body & trans only clam shell.

So, what do you guys think --- should I part it out or hold out for someone to build it????

Re: WHAT TO DO?? I have a few too many Suburbs - Need Some Input

Well I guess it would depend on what someone is willing to pay for it complete VERSUS parting it out ... which, as mentioned, would take trips to shippers.

Include time for stripping parts, and shipping stuff out.

This all takes time.

For example, the seats alone would bring AT LEAST $1000

Once all the good stuff is removed, not sure what the rusty body would be worth ...

If it were me, I would try to sell complete.

If no hits, then part out ...

(but contact me first .... )

Rust what rust that's rust free on the east coast. If it was running it would bring more then parting it.

I would pick one and focus all my efforts on building just the one. Maybe two if one is a 2wd and the other a 4wd . Then sell the rest and put the funds toward making that one so much nicer. That rust isnt so scary. You can get patch panels for those areas and get the repairs done without too much pain.

Oh, and to answer your actual question, I wouldn't part it out. It is way too complete. Someone out there really wants to rebuild that thing.

Argonaut, I agree with both your posts. I've owned this thing for a couple years now and turned down many requests to sell parts --- I'd much rather replace rust than look for all the hard to find parts not to mention paperwork & Protect-O-Plate.
I have been focusing on my 66 for some time now (slow build), work gets in the way. Here are a few pics of 66: 1st -- when purchased, 2nd -- bodywork complete, top and interior paint complete & glass/new rubber installed, 3rd-- Chassis pictures.

Still can't figure out how to rotate pictures.

When you do work that good there is no reason to part the other one. Someday I hope to post some pictures like that.

Thanks Blaketown Scotty ---- I'm sure you'll get there with yours!!
I definitely don't want to part the 65 GMC. I'm working a short term contract in Lake Charles, LA right now and am planning to have a "Suburban Clearance Sale" in the near future. Too much money going out for storage and too many projects in the works: 66 Burban, '56 BBW short w/Corvette suspension, '69 Camaro & '63 Impala SS..

Some pics of three other Suburbans:
'63 Chevy 2 wd, '64 Chevy 4x4 & '65 Chevy 2 wd:
Somebody tell me how to rotate these pics, please...

Hey Pimp, actually no --- I just kinda threw it together on the fly --- no plans...
Body is still on dolly --- about to go back on frame to hang doors, set gaps and put front clip on and note all shims. Then body comes off for finish paint and buffing...

Don't wanna sell --- it's built so it can be used with multiple bodies and my buddy and I have a lot of projects ahead of us.
