74 C10 with 87 steering column

I have a '87 tilt steering column (floor/manual shift) in my '74 C10, bought the column from Steering column pro's. Put a Grant steering wheel on it, all is fine except the horn blows when I turn the steering wheel or move the steering wheel up/down. It also blows when I hit the horn button.

Not super familiar with steering columns but my guess is it's grounding out somewhere. There was a little plastic cap that came with the wheel and I lost it (actually in the barn somewhere), pretty sure it was suppose to sit between the base steering wheel column mount and the grant steering wheel mounts.

Is that the problem? If so what is the name of that part, if not any suggestions beside un-plug the horn?

So whats the state of the wire that comes out of the steering column that connects to the horn cap? Start easy. Then remove that wire (the little black twist lock that sits in the adaptor that makes contact with the slip ring) and see if the problem persists.

Wire is new, here is a pic of the assembly.

I did pull the wire from the horn button, horn continued to blow
I then pulled the twist lock assembly (wire/contact/spring), horn no longer blows.

Here is a few more pics:

If it continues to blow with only the wire, then that wire is grounding somewhere. Maybe the spring is bending enough to make contact with either the lock plate or adaptor. Take a plastic staw, drop it into the hole and bottom it out, mark straw at the top, measure down to where the nub of the horn wire locks in, cut straw shorter by that amount. stuff in hole, insert horn wire and see if your cured.

So I Tried the straw trick and thought it worked but it didn’t.

I then figured out the horn does blow without the wire as well. Not sure why I didn’t catch that last time but this time it did blow with out the wire.

Probably got a wire rubbed through in the column in that case. But start at the top, might get away without having to take things too far apart if you find a rub through up top.

I have to agree with Axle. But if that does not shed any light check your wiring to the horn to make sure the horn or horns green wire is not shorting to ground when turning or bump in the road.
