big block conversion in my '72 k5
I will post some pics as soon as I take them.
I am in the process of putting a big block 402 into my '72 k5. we dropped it in the hole last weekend and last night and again this morning I finished cutting holes in the firewall for valve cover clearance (tall valve covers no less) well the big block fits in there kinda tight in spots but it fits. Next I need to mock up the headers and check for clearance with the frame and engine crossmember. should be fun.once that is done then comes fabricating a bracket to mount my hydraulic clutch slave cylinder to on the bell housing, once again fun stuff. I can't wait to get it buttoned up and fired up. motor is bored 30 over to 408 with the domed pistons, kinda aggressive cam, roller lifters,roller rockers,nice aluminum intake,headers to dual flowmasters. grunt grunt |

the pic with the engine in the truck shows the rough holes in the firewall that I cut,
then below you can see the lockable storage drawer that I made for my guns and stuff... |

the interior was in pretty good condition, just a couple of rust holes in the usual places... easily patched. I then coated the floor from firewall to tailgate with rustoleum truck bed coating, appllied with a coarse brush right out of the gallon can. that stuff covers great and doesn't dull like rattle can paint. I covered the bumpers with it also.

I have the granny 4-speed w/ the 205 t-case.
I can tell you right now I have to cut out some of the upper motor mount on the drivers side and maybe a little of the frame behind the motor mount.... what tranny are you gonna use ? is the tranny still in the truck ? oh also I picked up a 308 ring n pinion with an auburn locker from the junk yard, I was running the original 373 gears but I was spinning 3200 rpm at 60 mph so I needed to get some taller gears

Nv4500 5speed with 205 tcase. I bought adiy4x4 cross member with the new style motor mounts

the best way to drop the big block in is to move the engine forward about two inches....easier said than done if it's already in the truck. just because you are gonna have issues with the valve covers and the firewall not to mention distributor clearance especially if you are gonna run HEI.

Tranny and tcase not in yet but putting it all together on rolling chassis. Moving everything forward two inches. Planning on running electric fans

perfect.... I'm running dual electric fans....make sure you run a circuit breaker and relays for the fans....and maybe a thermostatic switch.
check out this site www.truckandcarshop.com did you need a special adaptor for that 5-speed tranny to your 205 ? |

I moved my 454 foward bout 2" and its like everything lined up im running a trbo400 with a 203 tcase. I found that my adaptor was cracked on my 4 speed to a 205 and i had the stock 350 in it.
