They ruined that truck. Body lines are all jacked, front end ugly without a bumper, wheels are tasteless, chop makes it look out of proportion, etc. They took a lot of the styling cues that make these trucks look good and deleted them. To each his own, I suppose...

I have been off of the board the past couple of days...busy. I was scrolling down and thought the same thing as VT, shorten the truck frame and graft the bedsides to the truck and save the Blazer. Heck, you could chop up another LWB for that matter. Good luck with the build.

It's not one of my favorites either, I think changing the wheel well openings was a mistake and I'm not a fan of chopped tops. But there are some things they did that I like (dashboard, the wooden bed, door panels, seats, etc) and the quality of the work is good.

I have a hard time with the idea of a hard top blazer, kinda makes them like the old Ford unibodies, but I also think people can build their trucks the way they want to. I'm sure Kevins version will be much more tasteful!

Here's a funny story: The last owner of that snubbed truck went up against the Silver 69 (or 70) short step w/the custom stretched cab & homemade bed @ the Ft.Worth GoodGuys show a couple years ago.

He wasn't real happy that the silver short-step was picked as the better of the class they were in because in his opinion..... "they weren't in the same class..... they weren't in the same stratosphere...." because his Boyds/Lil-John/Johnsons HotRodShop creation was soooooo much more.

I mentioned it wasn't about the amount of money or the # of modifications done..... it was the overall 'feel' of the truck as perceived by John Q. Public (not Mr. Barret Jackson).

He indicated I was naive in my thoughts.....

I am not much on the wheels either but they had to use a wheel with no offset because it has c4 suspension front and rear.

Well not much progress to show you all but for me to get things done around here to get it in the shop was alot of progress. Now it is that much closer to starting the rust repair work and quarter panel work. Then once that is done then I will start on the cab section. I feel it is better to repair all problem areas before you go changing and modifying things. You end up with better work and less hassel in the end. Also this is the first time using the wheel dollies I got last month just for this build so I can roll it around to work on it and into corners when I am not. They are rated for 2500lbs each and were about $260 for the set from Summit racing.

Yes it is a one man job but you do have to watch out for the cracks in the floor. My shop was built in 1915 +- so the floor is not all that great but still works just fine.

Well just an up date on project Trazer. It has been ready to start now for about a month but life keeps throwing curve balls at me right now. First my (1915) shop wiring finaly gave up one leg of its 220 and I am working with PG&E to get my 400amp panel hooked up. The new panel is ordered and the electrician is ready to go as soon as it shows up. Then last Thursday I decided to replace the sink from a duel basen to a deep single basen for washing Taylor when he gets here. Long story short it turned into a full out kitchen remodel due to dry rot and cabnets that fell apart as soon as I touched them. Well the kitchen is almost done now (thanks to Dad being retired and giving me a hand) I will be staining cabnets in the morning, grouting the counters and getting ready to put in the new floor.

So I am really hoping to get to the blazer in the next few weeks or so if the owner still wants me to do it

Lets get this party started!!
Today I will be kicking off "Project Trazer" with a fire wall shave. The Owner (mkundo) came over and we walked over teh build and made a parts list and got our game plan all planned out.

Here's what we came up with. For starters I am going to get teh fire wall shaved and teh gutter molded off as well. Then I will get the body all set and shimmed so our door gap is just right then I will weld in a full body cage so I can start cutting everything out that needs replacing. Once the old metal is removed (pass quarter panel, all rockers, inners, kick panel, drivers quarter lowers and dash) then it will head over to teh media blaster to get stripped and sealed before comming back for the rebuild process. This way we can clean and seal as much as posible to help this build last along time after it leaves my shop. After all the metal is replaced then I will start on the grafting of the truck cab roof. I wil post some pics tonight when I get some progress made.

Well here is the first installment. I got the first stage done today and I will do the gutter and the heater notch fill after it has been blasted and sealed. I also removed the clutch bump to smooth things out a bit more.

This one will be a simple 90* cap off with a thin strip of 18ga sheet metal. I do not remove teh gutter but instead I cap it off. If you want to see the total bomb of gutter shaving look up project "Lemod Drop" and check that one out.
