Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!

Two Custom Campers ordered with different options when new. The blue C.C. is a base model, chrome bumper and hubcaps, 350 engine, tool storage box and large camper type mirrors. The green C.C. is a higher level trim vehicle,400 engine and standard car type mirrors. In this day and age, I'll take either in this conditition. So even if it is a Custom Camper, you really dont know to expect other than the heavy duty suspension package.

Ya know Rick, I've been considering it lately!

I might be putting a 12valve Cummins in there and right now I just finished bolting up and 84 front cross member.

NorthernGMC! I've had your truck as the backround on my computer for about 3 months now, then today I realize it's a members truck! Good stuff right there.

Here's a shot of my '71 Cheyenne Custom Camper on the ferry from Hatteras,NC to Ocracoke Is,NC in the Outer Banks. Nobody's heading that direction now with hurricane Irene bearing down:

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!

Here's mine. I bought it about 3 weeks ago from the wife of the original owner who recently passed away. It has been sitting for about 5 years, I'm trying to get it cleaned up and sorted out for my DD as my current vehicle is about to take that final offramp, LOL.

Another great thread. These type of informative threads are one reason I love this site and don't mind paying the 25.00 a year to be on the boards.

Nice truck, looks like a survivor. Is that original paint?

I believe most of it is. The PO told me they got sideswiped at some point on the passenger side. There is some poorly applied filler in the RR corner of the cab, the screws holding the right mirror on are not original and there is evidence the right rocker received some pounding.

I don't think it was a complete repaint, just the white on top and the right door and cab corner/rocker area. The filler job on the corner of the cab behind the door is pretty horrible, but the least of my worries for now.

Re: CUSTOM CAMPERS lets see them!

That is interesting as my 68 has been hit on the box on the passenger side as well. The rest I believe to be original paint.

Maybe they shot the fender & hood also, or maybe it's just "patina". It still had camper tiedowns in the stake pockets when I brought it home, and the forward camper stabilizer brackets have torn the cowl up pretty well.

Another Custom Camper ordered without optional large mirrors. Tires are 16" mounted on 2 piece rims ( very common during this period ).

Always sad to see a well optioned classic neglected. Got the rear end too? The coil spring version of the dana 60 3.54 ratio is hard to find. Not to mention the optional 16.5" wheels on spid (clip type for '68) probably long gone, which are very hard to find as well.
