Hinge rebuilders...?

Does anyone on here know anyone to whom I can send my door hinges to be rebuilt? I do not have the time, or equipment to do it myself, and I need to have this done to assist in me properly reassembling my 67 GMC's front end.

I recommend looking for a local machine shop. I don't know of any rebuilders since repops are available.

I may end up going that route if I can't find a decent hinge rebuilder.
I'm not sure I trust those repops though. I would rather rebuild and oem part than buy cheap repops if I can avoid it.

Yep, OEM door hinges are rebuildable, so no reason to buy repros for worn hinge pins

They can be difficult to get the pins out without an air hammer and a great vise. I a
So sand the surfaces where the bushing ride on a belt sander as those are usually worn, pitted, etc.

Willie at Wilson Antique Car Parts in Virginia.

Expensive, but a great hinge is critical to all of the gaps to the rockers, fenders, and bedsides.
Actually found him through forum members who have used him to rebuild hood hinges and recommend him.

He is doing my door hinges right now.
Talked to him 3 times on the phone for hood hinges and door hinges.

Reviewed his processes, steps that he does.
He uses new GM hinge pins and Oilite oil impregnated bronze, like the originals.
Presses the pins and bushings into the hinges.

His only business is hood and door hinge rebuilding. Does a lot of work for vintage restoration companies.

The one negative is lead time. He is out 3 weeks now.

There's no need to send them out if you have a vise / hammer and visegrips . manes truck parts has the hinge pins with bronze bushings The pins are a little long just measure and trim to length . Easy Peasy . Less than an hour to rebuild all 4 .

Yep, that is another option I seriously considered.
Saw your post from you on it while I was considering the options.
Then looked at the Manes parts.
Are the bronze bushings from manes oil impregnated bronze bushings, like the OEM ones?

FYI. The oil impregnated bushings are critical. They are sintered powder metal bronze bushings that are then impregnated with oil. The bushing is then 20% oil by volume.

The quality control of the powder metal parts is also critical. They are manufactured/[pressed to a uniform built in porosity to hold the oil.
Used to buy sintered powder metal parts, starting at John Deere. Used to buy from a company named Oilite. Think they are still around.

He did all my hinges, and they work like they're supposed to. He even offered to powder coat the hood hinges and springs. I may just be spoiled, but IMO he should stick to the rebuild end. No big, we didn't take enough care when we broke em in anyway, I'm having them PC'd again

Have you had Willie at hoodhingerepair do just hood hinges for you, or have you had him also do door hinges?

On the powder coat he does media blast so maybe he is not using a good of powder coat paint.

Not all of the powder coat paints are good quality.
There is only one sand blaster and powder coater here that I trust his powder coat paint.

Jeff, the vintage car refinisher and painter who will paint my Jimmy, actually has tested the powder coat paints of the players in this area.

He has been painting vintage cars and trucks for over 35 years. Even better, a friend of his who retired from one of the main paint companies, showed him how to test specifically powder coat paint.

Just like regular paint, but had not even though it on powder coat paint, until Jeff educated me. So much to learn!!!

He restored the hood and door hinges. Nice work. Not sure what went "wrong" with the PC. If we hadn't bruised one I'd probably call em good. Ideally zinc phosphate is a great finish, like original, though I'll probably have em PCd again.

On a side, some opinions are don't powder coat springs. In fact, I was told do not PC coil springs. I had em PCd anyway. A guy well-versed in finishes told me PC is a great way to go, because PC flexes.

Had Willie do my hood hinges 3/4 years ago. I sent then to him he did his thing and sent them back. Hood opens and closes like butter and because the hinges work the way they are supposed to the hood alignment on my truck is super.

Willie did mine and they are great he knows his hinges and how to coat them.
He is the best in the buisness, that doesn't mean he is 100% correct though and yes I'm sure he has mistakes made but I bet he make it right if given the chance.

I got my newly rebuilt hinges from randy500! They are GREAT! I have one side installed, and when I am off work and my son can assist again, I will install the right-side ones.
