What did you pay for you project truck?

I bought mine on ebay for 1400 bones while I was stationed overseas, had my wife go pick it up , mechanically sound truck but the body was worse that the pics , when I got home and was going over it , I remember thinking that if I knew the bed was rotted so bad I would not have bid over 1000.00
if a truck runs and at least drives down the road it is worth a grand, but 5 years later I have everything updated under the body , so now I am down to the interior and body part($$$$) but for some reason I keep having kids so my 5 year project keeps getting extended out to maybe 10 years, but I have at least invested 15K in the project so far

Garage kept, running, driving ,tagged and inspected. 0 rust but hit in every panel and full of putty with a 1980 Earl Shives paint job. But hey, ZERO rust. AM radio still works. org spare etc.

Bought mine for $700 in SW Missouri. Running, driving, just a little rusty. It's now sitting on a shortbed frame and will be a fleetside shortbed soon. It needed a whole new floor and usual rust areas fixed. Definitely try to find one with a nice body and not a lot of rust. I just couldn't say no for $700 though lol Based on which state(s) to look at, I don't think it really matters. What matters if a truck gets driven in bad weather and is left outside all of it's life. Good luck.

Price will vary depending on where you buy the truck. A fair condition truck in the rust belt will be junk in the southwest, and the price will reflect the area.

That being said, I got mine in running driving condition for $3600. Still needed a lot of love.

Well, that's a loaded question if I ever heard one!
But, Since you asked...

I Bought the 67 3/4 ton with no bed and no motor for $200 I turned it into this pile of parts (plus a few more I horded):

Sub total: $200
I bought the 68 short box for $423 (yep four hundred twenty three bucks) with no front clip, no interior and no bed. It has almost zero rust and a clean title though
Sub Total: $623

The '72 short wide cost me $400
Sub Total $1023
I removed the bed, seat and a few other miscellaneous parts and sold it for $700,(a $300 profit).
Sub Total, $323



So I guess the total I paid is $323

I found a young guy about like you, early 20s, that had about a dozen projects going on at once. His old school 350 bit the dust, and he really needed an engine. He had more V8s than he could build, but not one built.
Enter me, I just finished a vortec engine, on top of two other engines.
I got the longblock for about 20 hours of chassis work on a K10, put about $800 in it, and had a turnkey 5.7L.
Straight up trade for this...

And this,
A set of doors, hood, and two fenders for the dirty one. The white truck doors were gone.
So I figure I got about $1000 in my trucks, but I been collecting parts for a few years.
Camaro clip, 9" rear, wheels, Now all this metalwork im doin...

Maybe you could find something to trade? In Ga. we either drag race, or mud bogg. Maybe since you live up there in dairyland, some if those farms have 4X4 tractors with big wheels. Get the axles too... GREAT mud boggin stuff. Tte bigger the better. We love boats, and four wheelers.

South Texas along the coast is not a good place to look. I lived there many years and the humidity keeps everything wet. I now live in Utah and there are lots of rust free trucks around here.
Recently bought a 69 c20 with a396 that runs and drives for $1000 plus lots of extra parts including a extra rust free cab.

I got my 69 heavy half C10 last year for $1750 with an entire front clip, a trailer made from another C10, and the original straight six.

Shopping around is a must. Check the VIN and any registration the seller may have. Its always good to know where it came from and how long it sat. Mine journeyed from California to Montana to NE Wisconsin. Fortunately it was only stored up here and never saw the salt.

I looked at a lot of trucks in the $2000-4500 range before finding this one. even though it was a little rougher than what I wanted when I was it in person I knew it was the truck I wanted. I've spent a couple thousand on it since then and I'm getting ready to swap in a 96-99 vortec 5.7 and a 4l80e to replace the tired 305 and 700r4

I paid $1100 for my 67 long bed. It came with about $400. In new and used parts. Was told that the motor was rebuilt but it did not run (tags were 8 years out of date).
Had the perfect look for a rat rod.!

Paid 4k for my 69 short stepside with extra hood and a couple boxes of extra parts. Sometimes I think I didn't get much of a deal but for what's out here on the east coast and what crazy numbers people try to get I got a deal.

This thread makes me cringe! I paid 9,000 for my project....here in Canada if it's from down south and rot free you pay through your a** to have it. It's a 67 SWB small window and it took me about 4 years to find one here in Canada. Originally a Texas truck, with a 350 thrown in it.

I paid $1250 and drove it home 20 miles. Proceeded to put $2000 to make it safe. You could even trade the ford for an very good 67-72, but you need to know what you are looking for. amazing enough there are people out to make a buck. Attention to detail look over everything. To be quite honest if your're that young and going to school. Buy the year/model you like and store/work on it.

I paid $2800 for mine, it came with $1300 worth of new parts. Drove it on to the trailer. Needed both rockers and one cab corner. It came out of Rockingham N.C.
