Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Thanks everyone for the great responses, I am really excited how it looks now, and to keep working on it at my shop.

Also, I can't say enough good things about Livrat, he not only attacked this project in a hurry, he has made sure I have all the right parts needed to put this back bad boy back together.
Man does he know his vehicles, whether it's a Chevy, Studebaker or whatever. I learn something new every time we talk.

It has been great working with him. I look forward to more projects down the road! Besides he has a number of Blazers to finish, so I can learn as I help him

I know I am way ahead of myself, but I am looking at some color samples next week. I will post the one's that I think represent the project the best. I found the original paint color codes on Ditzler's website, and want to stay true to form. I just want to see color samples for myself.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Ill chime in here and also say Livrat doesnt get enough credit. I call him or PM him pretty often and he always has an answer. His vehicle knowledge is incredible.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Drew I have been looking in on this some and seeing what all you are doing. Looks like she will be sweet! I have seen that gold and white truck in person before and it is very clean that a good one to go after as a look a like blazer.

I will be stopping back by and seeing what's going on with this thing..

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Hey Travis,

Thanks! Can you believe it, back to my old ways with 67-72's... and my first gen Blazer. Man this has been fun so far and I'm sure looking forward to it..

My son is benefiting from all my square body parts gathering, including the tweed interior from you for his 75 Blazer. I never realized until this past month just how many little things a person acquires for these trucks until you bring it all out at the same time. My shop will probably never be this clean again..

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Nice truck man.... I think the retro 68 look will be bad ass... the Pacific NW certainly has a good selection of relatively rust free stuff... back here in the RUST belt we have doo doo. I recently stumbled across a 70 2wd blazer chassis, and a relatively solid 74 K5
Alas I already have too many of these.... although I think th 74 would make a good driveway plow truck.... but we all know it never stops at...hey it runs and does the job.... hahahahah

Good luck

Nice build, I too have seen the Truck posted. (I tried to buy it
when he had it for sale at Nashville Good Guys 2007) You and
I are both building Blazers that GM never intended to build.

LUV2XCLR8, Thanks for the kind words..

I will have to go and check out your build. I have seen the pictures of yours in the for sale area, it was one of the one's that helped me form the idea behind mine.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Some progress of a different nature,

While hanging out with my friend Dave from DC Truck Parts over the past several months, we have been talking Blazers and trucks non stop. Well I went in to drop off some parts to him for swapping, and was able to get the rear seat brackets I needed. (A big thanks Dave!) While I was there, I noticed he had some BBC headers just looking for a new home.... Well, seems they made there way into my trunk.

Yup, I have decided to go BIG BLOCK 454 After talking about it over and over with Livrat and Dave, "both of whom are big block fanatics!" they won me over.

I figured I am only building one of these, so why not represent it full on. It only gets crazier from here Right

Subscribed. Very cool project. The big block kind of slides off the 68 theme, but I don't blame you one bit for that.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

It's Home!

Livrat and his friend Andy loaded the Blazer last night preparing to make the run south to my place today. At first I wasn't sure it would happen as I got some snow and ice last night and things looked pretty ugly this morning, but it warmed up and turned out to be a nice afternoon. I took off at lunch to run up and meet them and get things unloaded.

Once we got it rolled off the trailer and into the shop, he showed me all the bits and pieces he brought along.

We swapped on my Rallye's only to find the 255/50 15 Toyo's are to wide in the rear and hit the wheel wells. So I guess I have a couple of options, I can have the backspace changed, or get different rims with the proper backspace. I am going to think about this one for awhile as I have plenty of time before it ready for that.

In the front as has been mentioned by more than a couple of threads the 15in. rims rub the A-arms thanks to the drop spindles.. Rats! We aired it out anyway to get a look, and I really like it alot.

All in all, I think this things looks Sweet!!!

Also, the 454 and assorted extras are here. Since I have not had a big block in many years, I am going back to research mode on what I want to do with it.

I took some pictures but left the camera in the shop, so I guess I'll have to post them tonight.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Pictures as promised.

If you look close, you can see the rear tires are touching the wheel well. And the front it is staying up due to the front shocks being to long.. But like I said earlier It's Home!!!!!!!!!!!! now the real tear down begins..

And here is one with my son's 75 Blazer looking nose to nose..

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

So, since I have been slammed at work for the past few days I have done nothing on the Blazer. I did however start my research on the 454.

Seems what I have at the moment is

Block - 361959.....454.......73-90...2 or 4 bolt
Heads - 346236.....75-87...oval...OPEN...454, 120cc chamber, 225/116cc ports Build dates Dec 78

Peanut Ports! yeah....

Ok Ok, on a happier note, I did fine a good set of 049 and some 781 heads locally, and will go look at them this weekend.

So in the meantime, I am finishing up the details to get my 78 swb back to driving condition (it's only been a year and and half)..

I am also configuring my shop space while making a lift setup to aid me when I pull the tub back off the chassis.

I hope to make some headway over the weekend.

Re: Project 50th C5 Blazer

Thanks,

I bounced idea's back and forth with Livrat, and by searching threads on the boards. Other members like Hotrodhomi also helped. I can't wait to get all the finish welding done and get the frame blasted, painted, and back together..

I've decided that I am going to run hard lines for my air setup, I still have to decide on air management, valves, tank, compressor etc... so I want to have those items decided before I finish the frame in case I need to fab any other mountings and what not.

I look forward to seeing how it rides!

One year I am going to do similar to my burb. Right now it is acting as a rolling mini storage.

FYI, Air Ride has a sale going on right now in this thread. I didn't need valves yet, but at almost half-price, it was kinda hard to pass up.
