I'm sure it will. Mine on the 68 had been cut and spliced so much and there were wires that we couldn't tell what they were for. Are you coming to Good-guys in Charlotte this month?

I won't be there but I think my dad will be with his mint truck. It's the same weekend as my anniversary, not gonna get away with that one haha.

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

So late last night after a weekend of scratching my head and studying the wiring diagrams I finally figured out where my battery drain was coming from... I felt extremely dumb when I realized it but the previous owner had taken the pink wire (shown as purple/orange on the wiring schematic) from the engine bay harness that runs over the top of the firewall and ran it to the positive battery post on the starter. I didn't question the purpose when I put the truck back together but after studying the schematics I realized that specific wire was intended to SUPPLY power to the ignition coil and not receive power directly from the battery.

First I pulled both engine harnesses out from the truck, stripped all insulation and traced every inch of each wire. I thought somewhere in that mess I would find two wires that were welded together or something along those lines. While I did find a ton of crappy connections and bad wiring techniques, I did not find anything blatantly obvious. I took the opportunity to clean up everything, solder all connections, redo the ends, and heat shrink everything tight. So at the end I have basically a new engine bay harness and I still couldn't find my issue. I took a break and decided to study the schematic a little closer. You'll see in the picture below three wires shown leading to the starter solenoid, I was reading it such that the black from the battery and the purple from the ignition were tied to the same post. When I took a closer look and crawled under the Jimmy to see how that harness was ran I realized that was my issue. I disconnected the pink wire from the starter and bam, the drain went away.

I plan on using the pink wire to power my electric choke and then I have a pigtail soldered to the pink wire on the back of the ignition switch that I will use to power my HEI.

I had to finish off the night with a cold beer to celebrate my victory, it felt soooo freakin good to conquer that battle haha. Now I can bolt her back together and enjoy a few more weeks of decent weather before winter storage.

I've been gathering some parts to do the cam swap on this thing and while I am there I think I am going to do a muffler swap as well. I am currently running a flowmaster knock off (not even sure what brand) muffler and would like to either switch to a borla, magnaflow, or black widow. From what little research I've done it seems like most BW stuff is very hollow sounding which isn't my preference, I like that deep bass throaty sound. But they may also make a different model with different sound that I haven't heard. Any suggestions?

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Minor update up Jane, I ordered a new Crower cam for her, new lifters, valve springs, and timing chain. I also got 6" drop springs for the rear so she will sit a little lower in the back. I'm planning on early March pulling her out of storage and spending a solid weekend in the shop installing the new goodies. I'll keep you guys posted

I think the extra little drop in the rear will look great.

Anthony the front is about 6" and the rear is 7" so it'll be 6/8 when I'm done

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Disassembly continues. Pulling the motor out this weekend and hopefully putting it back in if all goes as planned. I also plan on changing some of the “finishes” under the hood. I’ve got a quart of hot rod black on the way, we will see how this goes

Re: 72 Cheyenne Super Plain Jane

Looking good! I really need to pull the engine on mine and do a full underhood detail as well but have just been too lazy. As of now, I'm going with the "all original" look .

Is that with the new 6" springs? I'm guessing it has to settle some but it does look a touch lower. I plan on picking up the 5 inchers from your dad tomorrow and throwing them in.

Thanks Brotha, no that is with the old 5" springs. I actually just got the 6s put on the other night but the height is the same. I called the company and they said to drive it and it should settle. If not they will send me another set. I can't wait to see the 5s on your truck, they are probably closer to 6s now that they've been used haha.

My plan under the hood is to do the N2Billet mod on the heater box, build a box to cover the wiring harness junction on the drives side of the firewall, hide as many wires as I can, powdercoat what I can, and paint the radiator, rad cover, battery box, etc with the hot rod black paint. I also plan to change out my air cleaner for a factory 67-72 air cleaner and paint it the same black. It should tidy up a lot aesthetically and hopefully look a little more "factory" haha
