Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

Joe you have to explore other sites then just this one. LOL
I got some of those on www.streetsourcemag.com, www.c10forum.com, www.duallyscene.com, jancecustoms.com (show coverage pics) SoCalcustoms.com sometimes i wish i could get paid to search the internet. sometimes i will have 20pages open all at once, saving pics and exploring info. it's addicting. then when i turn off the laptop then my blackberry stills gets the site updates.

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

I'll have to take some more Joe.
Its a 78 3/4 ton crew cab with 77 dually rear end, 22's air ride, 350 4spd standard, and 89 suburban front end. Loooooooooooong way to go and a short time to get there!

i seen one a couple weeks ago. was a tow truck, had a long box that the box extended in the front prolly 2 or 3 feet more. wheels were under the fenders with no flares or anything. looked sweet. really long, but regular cab. prolly would have been a crew back long box wheel base, but with an extra long box and regular cab

More pics from today. Very little progress has been made. The reason they are all out in the snow is due to garage reconstruction (new rafters...which leads to a new furnace which leads to new insulation which leads to new paneling inside which leads to new paint...etc)

Nice Blazer! Cant wait to see more progress on the Dually! Love the ten bolt conversion, what are you using for a crossmember/control arms to tuck those huge rims?? Or did you just eliminate the front wheel spacers??

Thanks! I cant wait for more progress too ha ha!!! The dually is a single wheel 3/4 ton so it actually tucks the front tires in toooooo far. So I have to get custom control arms built. From what I understand Porterbuilt street rods can make them or maybe suicide doors. I need a little more drop too. The way it sits now is completely airred out and the control arms have about a 2" dropped cup in them....and its still not low enough.

I'd like to know the formula for calculating that. I have a couple duallys and it burns me the lack of tire availablity in larger sizes. Right now I have 255/85s on my 97 which has 16x6 rims, according to all the literature I could find that is one size too wide for the rim, but it's been fine. Yet I've seen trucks with 38/11 boggers on what look like stock rims, and I just saw a mid 90s dually with 37/12.50/16.5 military tires on stock rims, they looked dangerously wide, but the guy says he tows heavy and hauls weight without a problem. Scares me, especially since the 16.5 rim doesn't have the safety bead to help keep the tire on.

I already got a 4 inch suspension lift for it, it has 215/85 tires on it now which I will probably be replacing with 235/85s. Nowhere near as tall as I'd like to go, but as I stated above there isn't much selection. I know my 255/85s would stick way out and require flares, especially with my 1.5" spacers. The 215/85s are just about sticking out. I have seen a Q78-16 that is 35 or 36 inches tall but narrow enough for the rim, but again I think it would end up hanging out of the fender, and the whole point is to keep it tucked in.
It almost makes me want to make it into a four wheeler, tires and wheels are cheap, it would look awesome on 35 or 36 tires and wouldn't need flares. But, I have always wanted a "tucked" fleetside dually, so I don't think I'm going to change it back to a single rear wheel. If I did get some really big tires I could get a dually bed for it, but I don't want to do that either, the fleetside dually is what makes the truck so cool.
I just don't know what to do!

Re: How about some pics of 73-91 crew cabs

I want to share a little story that happened to me in my quest to find a nice crewcab for my next project. As many of you on this forum know these trucks are hard to find in decent shape. So I searched high and low and after kicking over a few rocks I found a diamond in the rough. well beside a barn 2hours away from my house. So I contact the seller via the Craigslist address given and bam the guy calls me like 2seconds later. He's an older gentleman who doesn't do well with computers but apparently his wife is a wiz so she got my email and told him to call me. So he begins to tell me all about this wonderful 86 crewcab all stock 454 rebuilt 700R4 automatic 2wd which he bought solely to pull a 5th wheel trailer hauling his race cars to the track, since he owns a mechanic shop and races on weekends. After talking for awhile 45min or more about his business and his kids have all grown and gone etc. he says he's only the 3rd owner the truck was original bought by a company that installs the 5th wheel hitches that swivel and hide under the bed when not in use. Apparently this truck has the only demo hitch ever made mounted in the bed. Although in my head all I was thinking is ya ya that's cool old man now how much do you want so I can get to cutting this beast in half to make a CCShortBed. The going price was the exact amount I was selling my 91 suburban for and therefore was perfect. So we emailed pictures and info back and forth many times and even talked numerous times on the phone throughout the week. Now this is were the story gets a little tricky. I have to sell my suburban in order to buy the crewcab. But luckily enough I have a nice family in need of my suburban for there growing family and as it turns out they live only 25miles from this new crewcab. So I devise a plan, being I will drive 1hr 1/2 from my house meet both parties at the local walmart parking lot. I will sell my suburban to said family and then in turn purchase the crewcab and everyone is on there merry way. Unfortunately 18inches of snow and ice storm roll through and so we decided to postpone the deal a week. Then I get a call from mr. crewcab who want's me to put down $500 deposit towards the truck purchase to secure the deal because he has another buyer ready that day. Since I was selling my suburban to fund the crewcab purchase it only made sense for me to ask the family to also put down the deposit. No harm no foul right...wrong
I get a paypal money request and forward my portion but then get a weird email back from paypal saying there was some sort of error with the transaction. so the next morning I emailed mr. crewcab to work something out. I get an email back says. I sold the truck lastnight because I thought you weren't interested in the deal anymore since I sent you the paypal invoice @330pm and hadn't received payment quickly enough I sold it. Sorry hope you understand. thanks.
So somewhere out there maybe another board member is laughing because here is the truck that is sitting in someone elses driveway.....
