Re: tuned port swappin!

ok, so today i tore it down to get it ready to powder coat. i'm was thinking about using the painless harness, but i've been looking at a couple of options as i may be going with an accell efi management system or something similar to program on the fly. if i do go with an efi management sys i'll be converting it to a speed density system rather than the maf, but right now i've got the modified maf setup. i've already been using a lokar cable on my edelbrock carb, so i'll be keeping the same. as far as the powder coat goes i'm going to be doing a flat black on the intake manifold and the top plenum, a gloss black on the fuel rails, and a chevy orange for the runner tubes. hopefully i can get it done this weekend, and will get it done as long as i don't have to work overtime tomorrow.

Re: tuned port swappin!

If you don't already have a harness, the only additional things you will need to convert to speed density are the ECM and a MAP sensor. The intake you have will work just fine. Looks like an 85-88 system with the cold start injector. You can just leave that in place without the wiring to it with no ill affects. As far as the engine, I don't think I would worry about the 327 so much, as the long runners on the TPI are better suited for torque, and run out of air above 4500 RPM or so anyhow. I think they are about the coolest looking induction system, though.

Re: tuned port swappin!

it's at the powder coating shop now. i'm going with a sem-gloss black wrinkle on the plenum and manifold. the runners will be chevy orange after much debating whether or not to do all black. should have it back next week.

the reason i was looking at a 327 is to take advantage of the low end capabilities of the TPI system, because a 327 runs out of breath above 5000 anyhow. i want to avoid using ported aftermarket runners/intake because i like the look of the stock runners a lot more than either the accell or the edelbrock. , and afterall the whole reasoning behind the TPI over any other EFI, is purely for looks...

Re: tuned port swappin!

OH YEAAAAH...I've been out of town on work all week, and got to come into town to pick up some stuff from the powder coater. I've got to go back out of town next week, and I'm not too sure I get to put my intake back together, because the wife needs me to get our baby nursery together (which btw is going to be awesome, I have an antique gas tank and some old school chevy tins to decorate w/ so far). I need to get the throttle body figured out and find an alternator cover, which I'll be bringing down with my block to have coated the same color as the runners. Anyways, here's what it looks like so far!
