What Knobs Are These?

So, I am familiar with 'standard' and 'deluxe' knobs in our trucks. My truck is a custom cab and has deluxe knobs for the most part.

What are these on the radio?

Re: What Knobs Are These?

I am pretty sure that isn't a factory C10/20 radio. This is the factory Delco radio I am familiar with.

Re: What Knobs Are These?

I think I have the same radio in my '72. The knobs look the same. I have no idea what it's out of. It was in it when I bought it

Re: What Knobs Are These?

This had a speaker mounted to the roof (including two more holes to patch) and one of the old Realistic FM radio add on units. So, I am guessing somebody at some point added all this fancy stuff.

Also must have had a cb at some point because the mic holder was still screwed to the dash. More holes to patch!

Re: What Knobs Are These?

They look like the same stock knobs as my 70 Chevelle, but with the black removed.

Bingo !

I noticed them in the Summit site and planned on using them myself , I just have to check if they fit the rest of the knobs ? Being period correct time wise I believe they will fit our trucks also . They look better than black plastic .

Re: What Knobs Are These?

Well, there you have it. I have learned something already today so now I can quit thinking. I will probably not re-use these so now I need to find someone who has or is building a drive quality chevelle, camaro, or nova.

So, did the 67-68 C10's have this knob?

Re: What Knobs Are These?

I can't read writing on the dial. It doesn't say Delco like mine. Can you post what it says? It may help solve the mystery. Does your SPID say it has a radio?

Re: What Knobs Are These?

OK, so I went out and checked. No radio listed in SPID so perhaps that is the reason for the odd radio and speaker job.

I had to get a flashlight and look but the lettering says All Transistor. I am going to pull the radio and see if there is any more information on it.

Re: What Knobs Are These?

So the knobs are not plastic. Some sort of chromed cast metal and they look decent with a real quick cleanup. Some polish and they would be presentable.

Wish the PO would have saved the radio delete plate that was probably with the truck at one point. Maybe pull the radio in the next day or so when I get time.

Re: What Knobs Are These?

Just like today knowledge was valuable back in the day. Since several members have the same radio in their vehicles. I would speculate that folks who knew ordered a radio delete truck and then bought a cheaper radio from GM and installed it themselves to save a few dollars.

Re: What Knobs Are These?

I think the option would have been way cheaper than buying one, an antenna, and having to install. I think it just swapped out. My truck came with factory radio and this one was in it in '01 when I bought the truck.

I've never touched this radio or done anything about music in this truck for some reason. It looks like the radio fit with no alteration, but I have never confirmed that the dash is uncut. I have assumed a converted factory AM with fit right in. I also have a GM AM/FM from a car that sure looks a lot like the truck radios. It's obviously not to anyone who knows these trucks. It was sure a lot cheaper than a truck AM/FM and all I was is the right look. And 'mostly' what I want is to listen to FM.

Re: What Knobs Are These?

This also clears up a mystery around my antenna. When I removed the old one it looked like someone drove a spike through the firewall, ran the cable through, and sealed up with some sort of goop. I remember thinking, "That is a terrible job from the factory." Now I know it wasn't factory. Before I run a new antenna it's another item to fix up correctly.

Re: What Knobs Are These?

These were work trucks back in the 60's. Lots of dealers would order them with out radios and "Dealer install" them if the buyer wanted.
