17" Wheel Backspacing

1971 4WD Blazer, stock height
Will 4.5" backspacing work on a 17" rim. Is the outer tie rod still able to hit the 17"?

I'm thinking of putting these wheels on to test clearances before ordering some custom forged wheels.

Re: 17" Wheel Backspacing

I run 17x9 with -12mm offset (4.5" backspacing) and it clears fine.

I have plenty of pics if you look at my build thread - but none specifically of the tie rod clearance. I can take one if you really need it.

Thanks, I did find your build thread, nice job. If you can grab a pic of tie rod clearance, I won't have mine for at least 6 weeks.I want to order rims so they can travel with truck to Australia

Re: 17" Wheel Backspacing

I was outside tinkering anyways so i got you some pics.

17x9 4.5" backspacing (-12mm offset), 37x12.50r17 Goodyear MTRs. I think they fit well.

Thanks, looks like lots clearance with 17". My current plan is stock height with a 31" tire. But good to know if I decide to lift will have plenty of tire space.

Tons of clearance, yes. You ought to be able to fit a 33" at stock height. lots of other posts on lift vs tire size if you need that info.
