Another no start
So I have a 1995 GMC K1500 w/350 tbi
I charge my battery & it reads 12.75V @538 CCA Motor turns over I've tried both fuel & starter fluid in the throttle body So I've assumed electrical. The spark plugs are a year & a half old but look normal on the electrode & still in good shape. Ive swapped out the Ignition Coil for a new one & acts the same as the already installed Delphi & wires (both 2 years old) & fuel pump too. Distributor is a year old. & has ran well since I installed it. Now Im not ruling out bad parts, I went through a hell of 3 distributors all of which were brand new. I drive 100mi twice a month, & the truck sits the rest of the time. But I would like to hear your thoughts & advise. I don't have a second person so I haven't found a way see if there is spark. & Thank You very much. |

Re: Another no start
If nothing happens with starting fluid it is safe to assume you have no spark.
I would be betting on the ignition module inside the distributor. I have enough issues I keep a spare in the glove box.Of course it could be cap, rotor etc. but I would still bet on the module being bad. If you have a tachometer and it doesn't move that that is good indication the module in bad. |

Re: Another no start
on seems like spark. I have had a wire break on the distributor that connects near the centershaft. I did not catch it till the 3rd time pulling the distributor trying all sorts on things on my old one.
Only other thing I can think of is their is a second oil pressure sensor/switch on some models that if truck has low oil pressure (it was next to oil filter underneath truck), it doesn't let it start. My 96 had a sensor that was failing that drove me nuts. Not sure if your year would have one or not.

Re: Another no start
Thank you
I do appreciate your input & will take apart the distributor next time Im home & look at the wires. After 3 Distributors I thought I finally had a good one. I was thinking last night coolant senor too, When they go out -200 something degrees & the truck doesn't start. Ha! Since mine's 2 years old & stuff don't lastno more. Going backover the road & won't be back for a month. Will update then & I appreciate y'alls taking a moment out to advise me. |

Re: Another no start
Good to hear you got it ironed out. It is frustrating when new parts are bad.

Better late than never
I'm betting you were getting these at cheap auto parts stores and not good brand name parts.
This should be a lesson to not get difficult electrical parts from the local auto parts store unless they are well known brand name parts. Trust me I worked at O'Reilly's for nearly 2 years and I know crappy parts when I see them. |
