solenoids

hey guys

i have shaved doors on my 57 and i want to do the solenoid thing .
i have heard the old school way of using gm starter solenoids .
has anyone gone this route? i understand there are pretty good companies that make complete systems with there own solenoids---dont need that i just need 2 good strong ones.
I have the bear latches- and my doors are tough to release the latch - any suggestions would be great
Dont know if there is a different wiring set up for the GM"s just looking for good strong solenoids . Diagram would be nice too

Yes many years ago. Sounds like your latches aren't aligned properly though. Bear Claws are usually very smooth. I have them on my 64 and it's they are feather light to open. Only one finger to close the doors.

Most solenoids are tough depending on how they are used. Typical wiring is the same for all of them. Solenoids are 2 systems in one unit. Activation side and the power side are the side that does the work. Activation side is the 2 small terminals. These 2 small studs activate the solenoid to pull the coil in so the 2 bigger studs can send power to something that requires a lot of amps.

Here is a quick drawing I did in paint. I'm not artist so bare with me. The solenoid for a car is typically 12 volt DC activation and less than a 100amps. most times. Depending on the popper rating you have you will need to get one as close to it as possible, preferably a little more than it's rating. This link is for a 12 v DC 100amp solenoid Continuous.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.
