centering brake pedal

I almost never do a tech thing and perhaps someone has already done this. But, a small thing that has always bothered me is that the auto and manual trans both use the same pedal hanger. When you change a manual to an auto and remove the clutch pedal (just like the factory did) then the brake pedal seems to be very close to the gas pedal. So, to fix this. I removed the clutch arm and cut the pedal off. Then cut the pedal off of the brake arm. Then the two pedals were sectioned and welded to the width of an early Impala power brake pad. The clutch and brake arms share a common hole which when bolted together to align them, I cut them off. The reason is to replace the brake arm with the clutch arm because the clutch arm kicks off to the left, therefore moving the pedal to the left.

If you want to move the brake pedal to the left and have a wider power brake pad, this is one way to do it. I hope some of this makes sense, if not perhaps the pics will.

Nice, I like that a lot. Too bad my welding skills could prove that mod to be lethal.

Re: centering brake pedal

Nice work. Can you show us a photo of the setup in the truck and how it looks next to the gas pedal?

Re: centering brake pedal

That's a great idea. A little too late for me but I would have stolen it at the time.

Re: centering brake pedal

Good Job! I feel the same way you do and moved my brake pedal over when I converted my 64 drums to a 73 Disc brake setup. Since I went to Discs I used a 73 pedal though.

Re: centering brake pedal

Actually started modifying mine today and didnt think about using the clutch pedal to offset it a little to the left like it needs to be.

Now know what I will be doing tomorrow .
