‘70 Chevy C-20 rear suspension

As my username implies, I am legally blind. I’m currently working on my first restoration. According to the Vin number, my truck is a three-quarter ton see-20 pick up. Having said that, it has a swing arm/coil spring rear suspension. Everyone I have spoken to has said that a three-quarter ton has leafspring rear suspension. In any event, because I want to switch to disc brakes, I have to change out the Full-floating rear axle assembly. Probably to a Ford 9 inch. While I’m at it, I want to lower the truck by 2 1/2 inches. There is a slightly curved steel bar that attaches at the rear of the frame that acts as a suspension travel stop. It looks like a section of leafspring. Is there a way to adjust/Alter this suspension travel stop so when the suspension is lowered I have adequate suspension travel? Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, DNBG

There were 3/4-ton coil spring trucks. Not all were leaf spring.
The “travel stop” you mention is an overload spring that can be removed if you want to lower it.

Disc kits can be had with the full float. The Leaf eliptical spring is an overload that the 3/4s need if being used as a truck. It can be removed and sold off if you no longer need that part.

beat me to it.............

Re: ‘70 Chevy C-20 rear suspension

If you want it to continue to be a 3/4 ton truck why put a halftone Ford diff in it
Dana 60 or h052 are stock in these trucks
73 to 87 14 bolt fit well for width

There are disc brake options for all three diffs
Captain fab on the board here makes a few diy brackets to convert to disc brakes

Here is thread on the subject

Re: ‘70 Chevy C-20 rear suspension

Hope your build goes well for you
Big undertaking for being visually impared
Are you starting a build thread for us to follow?

I never looked at lowering a c20
I am looking at my c10 as 3.5 in front with 2.5 drop spindle and 1 inch drop coils either 4 or 5 inch drop in the rear

My aim is lower it so I can drive through tim Hortons or those damed parking lot speed bumps

If you prefer to keep your original full floater, you can check https://lugnut4x4.com/product-category/rear/ .
They have kits for the Dana 60, Eaton and many other. I’m using them for my Dana disc swap.
Good luck with the build.
