Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

"Blu" needs a new hood. What years and what models will interchange with my '76 Cheyenne?

73-80.

Although I've heard 79-80 were slightly different, I can't figure out how, i have a 76-78 hood on my 79.

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

Thank you. Working with a very limited budget, sucks! I've got a hood off an '85, it measures the same, but it looks different. Won't know for sure until I try it. Yikes! My truck has been on the Mendocino coast for 40 years, them bolts are gonna have some rust on 'em, I betcha.
Thanks again.

An 85 hood wont work. Anything from 73-80 should fit from any of the pickups or blazers.

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

Yep. I just compared them side by side and the '85 is no good. Off to the wrecking yard. Does anyone know about how much I should be prepared to pay. Hopefully the nearest yard is upstanding enough to not take advantage of a female. So I'll do my homework and be prepared to dicker! Thank you for your info.

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

I'm all for low buck builds. So I hope you keep us posted on this ride as you build it up. Hope you find a hood for a reasonable price. I've seen them(around here) from $50-$125 bucks. I'm hunting one for my 76 as well....grrr. Good luck.

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

Hey I found a hood. It's an '80, but exactly the same as my '76. Thanks for the price estimates cause the Ol' boy at the wrecking yard tried to kipe me for $195. If I pulled it myself! LOL!

I like your blue truck! That is a great hue of blue. What did you end up paying for the hood? And how did you pull it yourself?

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

Hey guys the hood is in the refinishing process, I managed to get it for $20!( Thanks for all the great info.
Now the current project is, rebuilding the frame around the steering box. My son was going to weld some new steel to it, but somebody mentioned that there is a kit available for it. Has anyone heard of this? And do you have a website I can access? I've Googled it, but only come up with places offering the actual steering box when what I need is the truck frame repaired.

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

Maybe Off-road Design I think. That's only place I can think of right off.

Re: Robyn's '76 Cheyenne

ORD has quite a few options, I've used them before and was happy.

Smittybilt has one too I see, here's ORD's stuff.
