About Time... Build Thread

Well here it goes. I have been dragging my feet long enough. grandpas Truck has set since I got it over 3 years ago. I have not touched, other than trying to make it weather as good as possible. The original motor is still in it and is blown some how. Last spring I bought a 350 off a guy for 250 buck. It ran when pulled but smoked and needed some help. I also signed up for a local college class for engine rebuilding. Last spring I took the engine apart and found several issues:

1 - Cylinder head on one side was missing the plastic oil retention ring allowing the oil down the valve = smoke

2 - The head was cracked at valve seat

3 - Cam bearing got hot enough to melt

The good: Motor had hardly any miles on it since rebuild, it checked spec and was well within tolerances for a motor 30 over bore = no machine work

The crank was freshly turned at .10 under and showed no signs of wear, again no machine work...

Motor came with:
New HEI and 8mm wires
Edlebrock dual plane intake
Holley Street avenger 650 carb
TH 350 in good shape shifts well

Currently I have a set of brand new world products SR Torque heads in my living room.

I ordered a bunch of parts tonight amd they will get here shortly:
They include

Comp Cams XE 268H Cam
New Lifters
Double Roller timing
Roller Rockers
Gasket Kit
Oil Pump
Rings
Bearings
Valve cover
Timing Chain Covers
Freeze plugs etc...

Total cost so far is $950 including engine cost...

I will post pics when the building begins.

wish me luck
