80stepsideguy,

How did you get all the factory "rubbery-goop" off the firewall? I try to scrape that stuff off and all I do is push it around.

Thanks Mike

Re: My 1980 restomod project

I used the 3M dotco Scotch brite discs.I went thru alot of them but it worked very well. Use the heavy abrasive ones you can get .I think there green in color. Whatever you use afterwards like lacquer thinner can wipe off some from the surface.I will say this though it took awhile so be patient..

thanks

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Dennis,
its getting there yes, i just got the fuel cell all set and ready to go in.I just gotta get some hardware, and some round tubing so i can level it out between the framerails in the rear.Question i hate to ask you since i know you did a complete step process with your truck but where did you get your rear disc brake setup from?? I am gonna go that route with the rears so i need to know where you got it from..

thanks

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Thanks 77shortstep

I went overboard with the spending this year on it. I am gonna chill out and do very minimal spending next year as i need to replenish my funds. I am trying to get the heavy spending parts out of the way but realize i still got a little bit of that to go. But it looks pretty good right now i still need to finish up and install the rear window and rear disc conversion before getting the bed back on...

thanks
pat

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Great looking project! I really like that blue paint! What color code is that? I'll be watching this one for sure! I need to make a cab dolly like yours for the cab that I bought for my truck. Do you happen to have the dimensions, or a diagram or something of yours? It would be nice to be able to move my cab around the garage since it's sitting directly on the floor and I can't move it right now. ...Joe

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Sorry guys i been very busy as of late.
I`ll post some updated pics and the paint code is 39N .I`ll get the dolly dimensions as well for you joe.Right now i`m having a 12 bolt built for the truck.I got the housing powdercoated and now i bought a EATON setup and a set of 3.73 gears.Once its done i already bought my rotors and calipers for them and i`ll install them soon once the rearend comes back.I also doing a belle tech 2 inch c notch and flip kit and a belle tech 4 inch lowering kit for the leaf springs.SO it should look wicked once done.Been doing alot to it as of late but here are some updated pics of it:

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Thanks guys,
i took off the front swaybar and the front calipers as i am gonna have them powdercoated as well as a pair of rear ones once they arrive from the parts store as well as calipers brackets .BUT now i may have another problem.I noticed on the pass side the rotor sits nice and straight as the drivers side is tilted in.I sure hope the frame on this truck isnt bent but if it was the cab wouldn`t have lined up as easy as it did as well as the core support and that too is sitting crooked.I guess i gotta do some fanagaling to make it work ...

thanks
pat

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Hey guys,

I been at it for a lil while with the truck.I got the fuel cell in and the fuel line up to the fuel pump all done.I got the brake lines all done right up to under the cab.And had a hard time w/ the parts stores helping them try n get me brake lines for the rear calipers.I went online and bought a set thats braided for a 94-6 SS impala and gonna sell the front ones later on.I also been dealing with the rearend.I got a 4 inch bell tech rear leaf spring kit and i still didnt like the stance as it still had the RAKED look. I put in a flip kit and it was WAY TO LOW.So i found online from craigslist a set of front and rear spring perches from a 82 w/ springs, for 100.00 to replace the lowered bell tech front spring perches.Going to have them powdercoated and install them.Hopefully w/ the flip kit it will be at a level height..But been wanting to put the bed on, looks like that will be another week or so.. But once this is all done i`ll post pics....

thanks
pat

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Hey
Well i got the bed on the truck, let me tell you i think the next time i`ll call people to help me out.I did it VERY GENTLY with a floor jack and a couple of blocks of wood.Raised the rear, removed the 2x4s and slid them out and stuck 2x4 blocks under it to support it on the frame as i did the front. Then took out the 2x4 and saw horses and gently lowered it onto the frame, repositioned the bed, slid the bolts in and done!!!!I also got the new braided rear brakes lines installed. But as i looked at it , the front sits to high, now i need to pull the front end apart, cut a 1/2 of a coil out, n while its apart everything will get powdercoated and reinstalled, .But i think the front end will take a lil time but it will be done before december.Right now just dealing w/ family issues so gonna do it as cost spairngly as possible.I dont like the spray can look, i want it right.

thanks
pat

Re: My 1980 restomod project

Thanks guys,
i put the rear steps on last night n looks alot better now that them holes are filled. But i may have to put the truck on the back burner for awhile a dad may have part of his left leg amputated due to a skin infection in his foot.I`m deeply saddened due to this and hope to get going on it more in late winter early spring before i go to ocean city maryland in may..I`ll try n post some more pics soon w/ the front end lowered..

thanks
