I've never even seen a inner cab corner before....all of the trucks up here barely have an outer. lol.

I can certainly relate to that comment based on the 2 rusty cabs I have removed from my trucks so far!

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

Well, I made a tough decision today. I'm taking the cab to a pro body guy who is going to finish the metal work and paint it during his off hours. He is charging me $20/hour for labor so I am very pleased with that. Now I am going to focus on tearing the frame/chassis apart and getting it prepped for paint.

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

Okay I pulled the trigger. The cab and doors are off to the painters, and after work tonight I am dropping off the core support, fenders, etc. I'll take the bed on another run when I pick the cab up. I am pressuring him to get the cab back to me ASAP so I can start re-assembling this beast within the next 3 weeks. I NEED to have it on the road when the snow flies. Any guesses as to the color I've selected?

Exactly right----PINK! well, not really. But you were getting pretty warm with your 2nd guess. The color is Chevrolet Indigo Blue!

I have always wanted an Indigo Blue truck, and have never tripped across the right deal....so all I have to do is build one!

Sure buddy. The body parts are at the Painter's now, and the Sandblaster guy is coming over tonight after work to make arrangments to get the frame to his place so I won't have anything to show you for another couple of weeks though until I get the frame and the cab back.

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

I had a guy come over tonight and give me the price of $500 to sandblast, prime, and paint my frame, axles, springs, etc. He is also going to weld up my rear frame rails where they were cut to accommodate a dump bed which has been removed. What do you guys think of that price? (I have to buy the primer and paint on top of that).

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

don't know what to tell you about the price, but are those rear frame rail pieces that I gave you going to work...I hope so...also, if Josh wants it, I'm gonna pass on the sm465 to him for the ccsb he's getting from me...do you know whether that came out of a 4wd or 2wd?

Yep..your frame sections will work perfectly. He and I made sure. Thanks!

On the tranny I am not sure if it came out of a K or C truck. Sorry

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

I went on a trip yesterday and picked up a used TH400 for only $125. It is a good working unit with a shift kit/transgo in it. The guy also included a beautiful set of stainless tranny lines with it!

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

I was hoping to have the rolling frame to the sandblaster this past Monday, but I wasn't feeling well last week so now I am shooting for this coming Monday.

I got the drivetrain pulled last night...Went pretty easy.

Re: 86 k 20 project "cletus"

Well I woke up @ 3am this morning and got to thinking about stuff and I couldn't get back to sleep so I went out to the barn and tinkered with Cletus a bit.

I stripped off the brake lines, fuel lines, remainder of the electrical system, remainder of the cab mounts (had to use a grinder with cut off wheel since the cab was so rusted the bolts took a hunk of the cab each with them). I started to attempt to remove the shocks and fuel tank, but the bolts were so rusted I didn't get far and ended up spraying them down with PB blaster and hoping that will loosen them up a bit.

I'm pretty concerned with how I'm going to remove the 1x1 square metal pieces from the top of the frame that were installed as spacers for the dump bed to rest on. They are bolted to the top of the frame, but the bolts are rusted and seized. I hope I don't have the hack the frame to get them off.

patience and very careful grinding..... that what it usually takes..unless you have fire... fire will always remove tough bolts
