What’s this plate for ?

So just curious what this plate is for under my front engine crossmember.

Looks like someones attempt at engine mounting plates ,

BUT my main Question would be is that Copper tubing your using for brake lines ? That's a BAD idea ! if it is just Copper your going to have to change it out to Ni-cop lines , Standard plumbing copper lines will spit under pressure

So the stock engine plates are installed, but someone before me for whatever reason cut them off just above the engine mount. Haven’t figured out why someone would do that yet but I have some stock replacements I found on eBay on the way. As far as I know the rest of the crossmember is stock. The plate is bolted to the bottom side of the frame thru the bolts for the crossmember and is just sticking out. I was just going to take it off because I can’t see that it is serving any purpose but figured I’d see if anyone has seen something like this before.

As far as the brake lines they are NiCop lines.

Nothing about the engine mounting appears OE. The bolt holes on either side of the brake lines are where the factory mount/crossmember bolts to.

Like I mentioned someone chopped them off. The mount towers are attached to the crossmember then mounted to the engine and just above that someone cut them off so where they would usually continue up to the top of the frame rails and bolt. that section on both sides got cut off. Don’t know why but they did.

They chopped them off so the headers would fit. Unless you are going to race the truck I would eliminate the headers, put on some corvette ramhorns and get some correct engine stands. It never ceases to amaze me how these trucks get hacked up

I initially thought the headers too but to me it looks like there is room still. Unless they had a different set of headers on. I’ll know for sure once I get my new crossmember. I’ve been wanting to go to ram horns anyways. I haven’t don’t much research on the corvette horns I’m guessing they are a direct bolt up?

Im guessing it’s a 2wd to 4wd conversion with wrong year parts cut to fit. Nothing wrong with a conversion just make sure it’s safe.

This would make sense because I’ve already changed some 2wd parts to 4wd. I bought a 4x4 crossmember off the parts forum. So I should be able to just get rid of that plate once I have the correct crossmember installed? I just wanted to amake sure it didn’t serve any other purpose.

What on earth? Are those COPPER brake lines?

If so you need to fix the WHOA before you worry about the GO. And on this truck if it's not factory, look at it closely. Whoever was working on it before was, um, innovative.

Nicop is good stuff it flares and bends so much nicer/easier than steel. Looks like you’ve got quite a bit of “ingenuity” there. Not sure why the plate is there but it definitely doesn’t resemble anything from my factory K20.

I really liked working with the NiCop lines. All my steel lines were toast. So I redid the entire truck with it. It was my first attempt at doing brake lines, so I have a few short lines that were my first ones I don’t like that I’m eventually going to replace just due to the bends not looking as great as the rest. Overall tho I like them.
