Anybody Like Old Hondas?

I started riding motorcycles at six and was rebuilding bike engines by 12. Don't have a two wheeler right now but it's not because I don't want one.

First bike is a 1974 Honda Elsinore MR50 I bought for my son when he was one week old and spent three years gathering parts to rebuild it.

Second bike is a 1978 Honda XL100 that I restored for a guy. This bike was his wife's first motorcycle and purchased for her by her father.

Last one is the good old classic 1985 Honda Big Red ATC. Refreshed this one for a guy and it still goes to deer camp every year. Sorted out some wiring issues to get it starting from the push button and headlight working. New fork boots, etc.

My dad bought this exact bike brand new, I always wanted it but he sold it and bought a newer Kawasaki 750 LTD.

My neighbor had one of those Big Red 3 wheelers. I remember when they were banned from sales in the US (1988??).

Re: Anybody Like Old Hondas?

I had an old 1970 trail 70 I was going to go through but got rid of it to help fund the engine and trans rebuild for the C10.

Re: Anybody Like Old Hondas?

I loved my little 01 CRV. On a side note, I just retired from Honda in March, after 30 yrs. I worked at the East Liberty Plant, where the CRV, RDX and MDX is built.
I have had several 4-wheelers in my past, from Honda. I don’t have much of a need for one now.

Re: Anybody Like Old Hondas?

Honda has a Heritage Center, that is located right across from the main Marysville Plant. They have a lot of older Honda’s displayed in the center. Here is a video from YouTube, it will show all of them.

Did YOU have a hand in building this one?

No, the first few generations of CRV’s were built in Japan & Swindon. The CRV’s in North American didn’t start until 2007.

My 1970 Honda CT90k2, 8,0000 miles, I'm the second owner .

In 1971 (IIRC) I bought my first Honda , a 1959 C100 Cub, followed by a long string of Benly's, Dreams, a few Scramblers and one Superhawk, I still have a few left, mostly CT90's, a couple CM91's (pre "passport" 90CC Cubs) and a 1976 CB400F my brother bought new....

Re: Anybody Like Old Hondas?

I have no pics but I have 2 1969 Z50's 2 1974 QA50's a CT70H 4 speed engine on a Z50 frame with a SL 70 Swing arm and forks sort of a project bike. Oh and a ATC 125M engine that I want to put into a cart of some kind built from parts of a Quad. My original 1969 Z50 I have had for 36 years and is street legal. All of them run. Yeah I guess I like them...

Re: Anybody Like Old Hondas?

I started riding on a 69 Z50 and then went to a CT70.

My sister had a yellow trail 90 at some point. Man, I wish I had all those bikes back now.

I also had a 74 Kawasaki MC1M dirt bike. Only made them two years and I’ve looked for years for one and only found one in Arizona about 10 years ago. Wis I would have got it and just had it shipped to me.

Post Re: Anybody Like Old Hondas?

Cool ! .

I actually hve 10 or 15 all told, three are the hard to find 1969 CT90K1b's, two of those are complete and one even has a tile .

My plan was to have up fixed these and sell them off once retired .

Man plans, God laughs .

I retired and nearly killed my self falling asleep on the Angeles Crest Highway riding my Ural Solo sT in 2017 and that changed everything .

An old friend of mine says he'll come take them all away (all the bikes, crashed, rusty parts hulks etc.) and see about getting them back into circulation .

Older Hondas are hands down the best engineered and highest build quality Motocycles ever .

I've been resurrecting dead ones since 1971 or so .

Parts are still available either from your dealer ($!) or new from out of country and used pretty much every where .

I well remember the tiny little "Monkey bikes" with the 10" wheels, when they were new I thought them toys but the decades have taught me other wise .

I hope to keep one CT90 to ride (yes, although I'm crippled and sleep in a chair sitting up I still want to ride) but we'll see .
