Smile 3 on the tree to sm465

I bought a '63 c10 Fleetside in good shape. It has the 250/6 in it now that runs good except rear main seal is bad. When oil pressure is up it runs good. Swapping in 80-85 350 with a sm465. Got both engine/tranny/entire '73 front end for $425..so I thought it was a good deal. Question is how much cutting will I need to do to the low hump cab to install? If anyone has pics that would be awesome also. I will be selling the 6 when its all done in case anyone is interested. Thanks for any help you can give...

Welcome to the forum

To install the SM465, you will have to convert your cab over to a high hump trans cover. This means you will not only need the high hump cover, but you will also have to change the piece that is spot welded to the firewall, that the cover bolts to.

Sorry I don't have any pics handy. You can see what the pieces look like in Fabian's build thread over in the 'Projects and Builds' section. There were some pics of the bottom of his cab a week or so ago.

Captainfab, thanks for the reply. I was hoping I wasn't asking to off the wall question. Seems like a T5 or another swap would be easier?

I'm not sure if a T5 will fit under a low hump or not.......it might, but I've not done that swap. There are others here that have. member jocko, posted a thread when he did his. Keep in mind that the T5 is not rated for the torque that a performance 350 will put out.

Hey Cap, I checked again and my truck has the high hump. After I pulled the carpet back some more I saw there was a good size square hole where someone had a manual on the floor. When I figure out how to upload pics, I will show ya.
