Think of it as a beauty treatment to the eyes, like when women wear eyeliner and mascara.

Re: well, I'm excited!

I'll get some new pics up we did a quickie blue paint on the doors, looks much better all one color. we did one dump run with it , got back and the right rear wheel was almost off, all the lugs were 1/2 off...my fault for not tourquing them down.
then yesterday the master cylinder failed, luckily in the yard..and this thing is so low geared it practically stops if you let off the gas...
so lotws more maintenence...but still cheaper than a new truck payment, and looks better too!

3/4 ton rear questions

I just got the rear brakes off my 63 3/4 ton 4wd, and the drums are shot, is the interchange all chev and gmc 3/4 ton 60-66?
what will work?
it is a factory gm 4wd, not a napco.

should be some pics in the link in my sig-

Re: 3/4 ton rear questions

... I forgot this part, the e-brake cables are gone, so while I am in there I am thinking of hooking them back up. will the cables out of a 1/2 ton work, or are they 3/4 ton only?

Re: 3/4 ton rear questions

The 4x4 hubs have a raised area at the bolt circle and the 2wd hubs are flat across the face. Also, the 4x4 e-brake cables at the backing plates are different than their 2wd counterparts, so you will need rear e-brake cables, specific to the K20.

Re: 3/4 ton rear questions

I'm assuming what you have is the Eaton HO52? If so they were used up thru about '70 I believe. I have also heard that the Eatons have the same backing plate flange as the 14 bolts. Some of the off road guys use the disc brake conversion for the 14 bolt on the Eatons. So common sense tells me that you might be able to swap some 14 bolt brake assemblies onto that Eaton. I'm thinking of trying that swap on the Eaton I will be using in my '68 K20, but that won't be happening anytime soon.

Re: 3/4 ton rear questions

I am going to try and get the drums turned, but the guy can only find specs that go back to '76, anybody know the specs, or where I can find the old info, he says if I can find out he will try and turn them for me.

they would be for a 63 k20 12X2 brake drum.

Re: well, I'm excited!

Congrats on the $400 deal. Got myself a $500 deal on a C-15 Fleetside in 2006. I'm restoring it and its just about finished. Will post many pics once I've completed it.

Re: jonz 63 K20 build

well here is a status on the worlds longest brake job!
I started in october.. and should have it done this week..haha.

lmc truck does carry the correct wheel cylinders, and was able to get the shoes (pr) at the parts store, all 3 pieces were $150.00! ouch!

Out of curiosity I checked an 80's 3/4 ton 2wd suburban that we have to see if the emergency brake cables would work. where they entered the backing plates was the same, so I might have to transfer some of the hardware from the frame to mount them, but I will be able to have e brakes.

my drums were too worn to turn, but with the amount that I will be ysing this truck, we decided that they should be ok af ter a goos scuffing with some 180 grit.

Re: jonz 63 K20 build

took this shot in feb. forgot to post it... painted the doors, useable wheels and tires.

I found a set of original 8 lug non split 17.5's is there a modern tire that will fit/ before I go buy them?

next on this is putting together a set of original mirrors, the original driver door to this truck came with the bracket,I found a bent up arm, hopefully i can straighten it, and I just need to find a passenger side setup, or I might copy the driver side setup and fab my own bracket for the passenger side.
(second pic shows thistype)

Re: jonz 63 K20 build

I just found out this truck came with a fawn custom comfort seat!!
there are 2 covers over the original material, a walmart style cover, and then a thick red cover under that. I noticed when I folded the seat forward, that there was the original houndstooth material in the crack....
I don't want to take the covers off yet to see if the drivers side has a hole worn in it...seems like they all do...

Re: jonz 63 K20 build

Jonz houndstooth refers to the design on the camaro seats like an oversized comma,,,,,, Houndstooth was also printed on womens clothing. This upholstry is for the deluxe early sixties Chevrolet truck. A little sensitive about this point, I'm sorry.

Re: jonz 63 K20 build

I could be wrong. All the info I have for 63 shows the IIIIIIIII pattern for the seat. Vinyl came red or fawn depending on the color of the truck . My 63 had this pattern when I bought it.
64-66 had different material and seat layout of the white banding than 63. Perhaps the seat was changed out at some point.
Does you truck have the rest of the Comfort Options?

Re: jonz 63 K20 build

I'll try to get a pic of the pattern next time i am out there..
and no on the options, I will have to double check on the armrest, 'cause the doors were changed, but I still have the originals.
but it only has one visor, and cig lighter blockout.
there is a good chance that the seat is out of a 64 up... the dash has a 64-6 radio installed so clean ,it looks factory... found out the other day it is not hooked to the ignition, left it on with the volume off for about a month= dead battery

Bostrom Viking T-Bar seat was an option as well. You could find a pair locally.
