What are y'all cookin'?

My mom and I baked an apple pie tonight. We used my gradma's recipe, so hopefully it tastes as good as how she used to make it. Doesn't look too bad for the first pie I've tried to make

Tomorrow will be some turkey, ham, sweet potato casserole, mac&cheese, green beans, butter peas, and sage dressing. For dessert, we have the pie pictured below and some chocolate sheet cake.

Happy Thanksgiving y'all!!

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

I'll eat whatever the wife is cooking, because she only cooks dinner about 5 times a year, and tomorrow is one of them. I'll go out to the garage and do some carving on my current project, and surf the net the rest of the time. I will, however, help out the neighbors across the street by taking the rocks they don't want in their back yard over to our house, and put them in the parkway. Both of my younger sons will be home, so I won't have to run the wheelbarrow!

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

Enchilada's. I have all the fixin's. We were going to have turkey but my wife didn't make it to the store. The car broke down. Sort of... I'll explain.

She got off work and was going to go to the store. The car wouldn't start. Absolutely nothing. Zero.
She called AAA. Then she called me. I told her to hang tight. I was ticked off because we just bought the d@mn car. And it's already broken.

The AAA guy gets there. He figures it out.

The car is in reverse. Not park. It won't start in reverse. He put it in park and it fired right up.

Did I mention that my wife is a blonde?

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

Family isn't getting together so it's just two of us here. I figure maybe the settlers brought the hog so I'm making slow cooked pork & sauerkraut with mashed potatoes and green beans. Drink some local unfiltered no sugar 100% apple cider. I guess no pie, unless I get out to the store and see something worth buying. No bakery in town anymore.

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

Rather low key Thanksgiving this year like many others. Smoked ham sliders, doing a batch of hot wings in the slow cooker and broiler, veggie plate and a French Vanilla cream pie Mrs. Ironhorse made. Then later this afternoon to help things settle a bit, a little Crown Royal. Maybe a Power Nap if I indulge the Crown more than one or two,

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

Smoked turkey and tamales from El Modelo in Albuquerque. I don’t really like tamales but these are the exception - so good. Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

Beef brisket has been in the smoker since 10pm last night. I'm cooking it using charcoal and mesquite wood at 210F. It will be ready for supper tonight around 6. Potato salad, ranch beans, and tortillas will be the sides. It's just what the Pilgrims had when they made it to Texas.

Re: What are y'all cookin'?

All sorts of good stuff. Might have to add a few to the line-up for next year!

Mom and I cracked into the pie tonight. Dadgum, it was delicious!
