Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

Well we had some really good weather over the weekend witch prompted me to get some work done on the truck. (finally)

I got the coolant drained and now just need to get some new coolant and fresh oil.

More updates coming soon!

Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

Well for starters, I got the valve/rocker cover back on. I did use the suggested thread sealant on the bolt that had the coolant leaking past the threads. I'm pretty sure it should work but time will tell.
All so I'm going to run some stop leak in the coolant system just for added safety.

Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

The next thing I did was rebuild the carburetor.
All so the fuel filter in the carb. was gummed up real bad witch explains why It didn't start real well or have as much power as I was thinking it should.

THE TRUCK RUNS MUCH MUCH BETTER NOW!

I still have to fine tune the carb. a little bit and I need to re gap the points but overall the truck runs way better than it did for sure.

Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

So since the oil change I have driven the truck around the property a little bit and it does have a lot more power after cleaning/rebuilding the carburetor.
I just need to finish the truck bed and then I can haul some firewood!

So still a lot of work to be done on the truck but at least I am finally getting some where on it!

Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

Not much progress on the truck lately mostly just been trying to work bugs out of the engine. Had a small leak on the carburetor that I had to fix with gasket sealant (Yes I know it's not the best idea but it'll have to do for now)

Spent most of yesterday gaping the points, setting timing and fine tuning the carburetor and was able to drive it around for a while.

I'm hoping my coolant leak is fixed but I'm not for sure yet. Yesterday I looked at the oil cap and I saw a drop of water on it but I'm hoping it was just condensation or something....

I did run some stop leak in the engine yesterday so hopefully if there is a problem that will fix it... Hopefully....

All so on the problems list I don't think my vacuum advance is working.
I thought that it was but looking at it again I don't think it is. I'm pretty sure that I have it hooked up to the right vacuum port on the carb. so it must be something wrong on the distributor. So I'm going to have to figure that out sometime.

The real thing holding me back from getting what I really want done on the truck right now is money so it's just kinda a slow project for now.

All so guys I'm thinking of digging into my 76 c10 to see what doom awaits in that truck.... so be on the lookout for a build thread for that truck sometime soon!

Boy can I relate to getting the bugs out and the money it costs...…
Its funny when we use to have a leak we would put a tablespoon of grits in the radiator and soon....no more leak. Not real sure what that does to the motor but the leak was gone...lol

Itll come along, trust me I definitely know the feeling.

Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

Most of us don't have unlimited money to put into our projects...so we save and pinch pennies to get the parts we need. In my case, this is going to be my daily driver, so I can sell one of my cars when I finish...so spend money now on the truck then recoup it when I sell the car...it's a weird dynamic. Otherwise, it would be taking me more years than it already has and I am not doing a show truck, but doing it with show truck speed of build.

You're doing great!

Re: 1965 C20 Dump truck

Thanks Andy...

Just a small update: I believe the vacuum advance is working after all.
I drove the truck with and without it hooked up and the truck seems to have more power with it hooked up so it must be working, right?
Not really sure what I was thinking maybe I was just looking for more movement from the arm on the dist. then is supposed to be there.

Just the cheapest stuff I could get, the trucks going to be a work truck not a show truck. LOL

It's been real warm lately so not as much progress as I would like but I'm still moving along.
Trying to remember to take pictures as I go along too.
I will try to have them up in a day or so.
