"Burrari" my first project, 70 c10 swb

Here we are 4 years later and I now have a 6 month old baby girl, married, and this project has completely taken the back burner. Here's some photos of what has happened in that time and what I need to do next. Goal is to have it running by the end of this year and body work finished in the next 2.



Picked up a big rod lq4 6.0 liter from a chevy dismantling yard in Maine. Has about 175k miles on it, but in great shape, and ran fine before it was pulled.








Pulled the 317s and took them to have a mild port/polish and new seals, springs, etc. Cylinder bores still had cross hatching, bearings looked good, swapped to an f-body pan.










Bought the plans for tip and flip cab dolly. This was my first fabrication project and was a lot of fun. I'm no welder and have taken one 8 hour class at a local metal art studio.
Turned out nice, and works really well.

Painted the block, had a lot of trouble with getting good adhesion with the VHT engine paint, and I imagine it will start to flake after it's run-in for a while.





Sent the cab off for sand blasting, thankfully no major surprises.





Towed the cab to my work where I had it epoxy primed.




And bought a bunch of aftermarket sheetmetal (hood, fenders, doors, core support). Which I regret doing, as the gaps are poor and are going to require a lot more work to get nice.

My favorite part! Borgwarner S480 kit from KBracing, specifically made for the 67-72 C10.

4l80e set up on my engine stand and starting installing the transgo hd2 shift kit. Found a broken accumulator spring, glad I went this far. Hopefully there's no other problems once I get it running.

And then I decided to shave the drip rails, which in retrospect really complicated things, should have left it alone:

After selling most of the stock parts, frame, engine etc, I pulled the trigger on the frame, which is a No Limit Pro-10. Took roughly 2 months to get, and took 8 guys to get it off the semi truck as we didn't have a forklift.

And at this point is pretty much where things ground to a halt. The body shop I was working for wasn't working out, and I received a job offer to run a new shop, but they wouldn't let me work on my project. I had to tow the cab out of the old shop, and it sat in my side yard under a tarp for 6 months.

Then I decided to move and needed to get the truck back together as a roller again, so work continued:

Installed the stall and married the trans to the engine:

Also installed the viking coilovers, but had to leave the brakes off as the roller wheels I have are too small.

I then quickly discovered the turbo down pipe is hitting the passenger side upper control arm. At this point I had to pack to move and the project stopped.

So here we are, budget is pretty much tapped out as I need to save for a house to move again. I have a Holley Dominator, and nice aluminum radiator and some other odds and ends. I really need to get a driveshaft made, but here's where I am stuck in terms of the sequence of things.

I can't finish the body work myself as I am not skilled enough. I need to set the truck at ride height so I can set the pinon angle and take proper measurements for a driveshaft. Well to do that, I need the right size wheels, which I don't have, nor can I afford (planning on CCWs). Thinking of wheel diameters between 18-20", but I want to run at least 10-12" wide square setup on all 4 corners (hoping for 315 tires).

Cab needs to then come back off so I can seam sealer and undercoat the underside. Then, it can go on for good. I figure at that point I can continue with trying to get the truck to start, stop, and steer. Then I need to buy a bed assembly and maybe drive it like that for a while to get the bugs sorted? Or should I just stick to getting the metal work done? I can't find a bodyman nearby who does side work and the guy who was helping me is 2 hours away.

Whoa nelly! What an update! No limit all the way man. It will be beautiful with any choice of color you go with. My preference would be the lighter gray with the bluish tint, in case you're asking.

Nice work! I like #2, that tan looks nice. Are you planning on modding a 68 hood to fit the grill or does it just look that way in the image?

in that first pic of turbo/motor i thought... we're going to need a bigger motor that turbo looks huge.

I really like the cream color above man. Grey(including my truck lol) is really common at this point. But. The grey still kicks azz too. My .02

I think he had never rendered a 70, so yes he just used a 68 hood. I plan to run a 70 hood. I'd love to get this truck to be able to do 180+ mph top speed, just don't know how many people have done that. I also want to run some auxiliary coolers somewhere in the front end with some duct work in a custom front bumper.

I have lots of ideas in my head that didn't show up in the rendering (I had no idea how expensive it was to have them done, so I just went with a basic 2 angle option).

Nice work and update. Life always gets in the way of hobbies both time and $$ wise.

I personally like #3 but you wouldn't go wrong with any of those. My idea of a project done well is you could cover it up and stash it away for 20 years but when you roll it out it's still cool. Kinda like a pair of jeans and t-shirt - never out of style.

Sounds good, I know what you mean about ideas, I have them, but my ability limits me!

I just can’t imagine moving during a build like this ? Hopefully someone offered you a # you could not refuse ? Anyway don’t underestimate your talent because it’s amazing ! I wish you all the best, have you bought any lottery tickets lately? I do hope you finish the truck and get a chance to see it’s completion..Jack
