Door window felt replacement

I have looked in the forums and can't seem to locate door window felt replacement instructions anywhere. I got the replacements and I took off that small chrome edging on the vent window on a junk vent window, for lack of anything else to call it. I don't think I would EVER get that stuff back on so I don't think I will do that. Anyone had any experience replacing this felt?

Re: Door window felt replacement

I just got through replacing all the weatherstripping. Are you referring to the vertical piece that goes in the back channel of the vent window?
If so, just remove old piece and throughly clean the channel.
Apply weatherstrip adhesive to both the channel and the new felt.
Wait a couple minutes and press in place.
I used masking tape to hold it tight.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the instructions. So I take it you did not remove those two strips down each side.

Re: Door window felt replacement

if i'm understanding the question correctly, I have the same question. I have the two horizontal felts (one inside, one outside) that go at the bottom of the window opening.

I have no clue how to replace them, so they've sat in their packaging since i picked them up last summer.

They have little prongs that slip into the door, but the repros aren't worth a darn. There was another thread a while back that said if you can find some NOS they will install very easily, but I don't know where you could get them.

Re: Door window felt replacement

I replaced all of the door weatherstripping, including the two that go along the window horizontally. Put it this way, the second door went together much easier because I had to trim them to fit...(aftermarket items). They have prongs, that once lined up, snap in fairly easily. The biggest problem you will have is cutting them to fit...be careful because you do not want to cut them too short...defeats the purpose. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
