My new 72 4x4 has headers and glasspacks. I don't think its sounds that great and really isn't that loud (my 72 2wd has glasspacks and manifolds and is louder). Anyway I'm thinking of getting 2.5" all the way from the headers back but don't know what mufflers to get. I want something that has a nice sound (not a glasspack sound) and I don't care if its loud. I've heard good things aroud Hooker Aero Chambers but also just saw a comercial for Flowmaster Super 40's and they sounded nice. Any recommendations? Thanks!

I have FlowTech Afterburner mufflers on my truck, and so far I really like them.

Magna flows.. love em, they get better the longer they are on there! 2 years now, still pleased.

Dynomax Super turbos.....they "lip off" pretty good behind my 383. also, they are a good flowing muff at a very reasonable price. crazyL

have a magnaflow on my car now
flowmasters on my truck currently
and had a flowtech afterburner on my 91 chevy truck

a couple of friends have had the hookers (they sound nice) and a good friend has the edlebrock muffs behind his 455.

i have no complaints with any of the above and would recommend them in no specific order really, unless you had other concerns (noise, budget, etc)

NO WAY HOSEA!! hE HE I have Flowmaster 40 series on 2 1/2" pipe all the way around with hedman headers. It hs GREAT low end and awsome pick-up sound I would definetly recommend them

I forgot about Magnaflows. Anyone have any sounds of them? My 71 4x4 has DynoMax and while they sound alright, I would like something a bit louder.

i personally like the way straight pipe sounds. if you are running it clear out the back of the truck it sounds good. but i know that some states dont allow that.

I have the original 40 series flows and will never use anything different and think they are the best out there. but that's just my opinion

I had Thrush Super Turbo's with 2.5 pipes exiting out in front of the rear wheels, sounded great. I have Flowmasters now 40series, absolutely love them.

Dynomax Hemi Turbos. $35 each and super quiet at idle (not compared to stock but compared to everything else mentioned.) I have 2 1/2" on the Jimmy with 'vette rams horns and the sound is awesome. If you love racecar sound then by all means, Flowmasters or Magnaflows. If you want to drive it and not go deaf, maybe take it hunting, or listen to the stereo, you'll be glad you didn't do the others!
