You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

I am needing someone who had installed their doors and done extensive restoration work to their blazers. I am trying to get the drivers door installed and don't believe it is possible with the geometry I have now. I did the pass door myself and it turned out ok but the more I adjust, the more I get to feeling that something else is out of kilter. I have included pics for the picture junkies (I am too). I reinstalled new body mounts earlier on, and rebuilt the door hinges, could be part of my problem. The body man 50 years experience replaced the outside rockers , small piece of floor on this very little rust vehicle. See the pics. I can't seem to get it adjusted so that the bottom seam is strait AND it does not touch the rocker with the door corner at the front edge. I am asking this...I have 4 shims under the front drivers side floor body mount and one under the body mount nearest the B pillar. This was exactly as I found it and replaced exactly. I think I need to remove the 4 shims on the front mount. Are these shims for adjusting the doors or are they mostly for alignment of the top to the body? When we replaced the rockers, we did so with the new body mounts inplace because the old ones were toast and we had the top on and bolted down to hold everthing in place while the cutting and welding was going on. I know that you guys say to have patience but I did have this question for those of you who have had the cutting torch in your own hands so please help me out and tell me everyting is going to be ok, and the sun will come out tomorrow, and the world will have peace, and Obama will now ruin the country...oh sorry, I got carried away.

My pass. door lined up perfectly, driver did not,
after we removed the tub it was almost perfect.
I say it just needs an extra body mount shim

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

Try putting your vent window in, sometimes that will move the door frame allowing you to change the door alignment. Make sure your vent window is strait, don't ask how I know

Nice truck BTW

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

Also if your using repop hinges they may need the
holes slotted a little more. They are not perfect

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

I'm not an expert, but I do work in the field. First thing is first though, you need to put the top on the Blazer and tighten it down. Once you have done that, you might see that you'll need to shim the body mounts. If you don't need to great, but something tells me that the body mounts under the middle of the cab need some adjustments. Once that is done you should have an easier time adjusting the doors. Hope this helps. Mario

Luv is right no matter if your hinges are re-pop or not, hog the holes of your hinges a bit, it's amazing the room for adjustment you get. A body guy I know has made himself a 4 foot bar that has adjustable hooks that fit inside the door (with the door panel off and the hooks adjust and tighten as needed. He got up on the tub of mine and tweaked the door until is lined up perfectly and then I just tightened the bolts. there are lots of tricks out there to get things lined up right. my doors latch now with a gentle push.

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

What I meant was I obviously was off on the body mounts
somewhere. Just the slightest bit of shimming can adjust it
more than you think. I had a new body mount kit and frame
was perfect, however that does not mean a perfect fit. We
pulled the tub and the door fixed itself. Which meant it had
to be in the body mounts and a shim could have fixed it.

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

I know you guys do great work. But the door, hood etc. were a far cry from a perfect fit when they were built new. They were never intended for show trucks, and were put together pretty sloppy.

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

I've seen more than a few times trying to adjust doors on a blazer with a full removable top be next to impossible with the top off. There is alot of flex in the body with the top off. Put the top on, tighten it down and see where it's at. Adjust the doors with the top on and then take the top off. You'll notice a change.

Set your rocker and A pillar gap, then adjust body shins to set your door to quarter gap. Don't forget to make sure your wedges are installed when finished

Re: You who have completely rebuilt your rigs!

My question now is this, if I put on the top and get the doors aligned and then take the top off, is the doors then going to come out of line? I am about to say finished and ride, the shims I moved yesterday seem to have gotten me closer than I was! There may be a little angle gap at bottom of door left when I am finished. I really appreciate you all posting!
