Help!! New Edelbrock and HEI
AM in the process of installing a hei and a 1406 Edelbrock. My hei is very close to the firewall. Will this be ok? Also on the 1406 I am having trouble w/ the kickdown and the throttle cable. They are not located in the right places now. I just ordered a bracket from Edelbrock (8103)? WIll it help? Thanks for anyhelp. Moodyholler

Your HEI will be very close to the firewall and it will be just fine.
I don't remember having to change anything on the carb though. Everything was there and I have installed 3 of these carbs on 70-72 trucks all with automatics.

I got a adjustable bracket for the kickdown cable and gas. The edlebrock bracket should work.

Edelbrock and HEI
I have the same intake as you do and all i did was replace my old cable with a chrome universal bracket from Checker. It hooked up with a few modifications. I installed a new High Voltage billet Accel HEI. I ad to grind off a little from the top on the rear for clearance, but it does fit very close. I have the SM465 manual with the NP205 transfercase.

I don't have the HEI yet but the carb wasn't a problem....

If you're uncomfortable with the closness of the hei to the firewall,you can do what I did. I simply took a ball-peen hammer and beat the firewall to a nice rounded shape to match the shape of dist. cap. quick and easy!!

The HEI will fit.Both of mine have them without any mods to th e wall.

Hei firewall distance
If you aren't going to go offroading, you need not beat the firewall. If you are, you need to bash it in. It will not be visible from the cab or the engine compartment. You will need a larger hammer than a small ball peen. Unless you have a big arm and plenty off swinging room. A nice sized bump or hole in the trail can knock the HEI cap off of the distributor and maybe crack it. Don't get stranded in the deep woods. **Deliverance
