what size/offset are those? And loving those hub caps.....Where does a person get those particular wheels? You say they are what width then?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to nail down some issues I'm having with wheels on my current project.

Those are Kelsey Hays 16.5s that came on camper specials, they made them in two different widths 9.75" and 8.25" which I believe is what he has.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Im looking at Wheel Vintiques on Summits website and Im not seeing the 16 inch 8 lug steel wheels. I know a couple people on this thread said they got them from there. Could you get me a little more info ... part number or something?

Wow only 6.5 inches wide. Seems so narrow for a big truck

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Has anyone ever seen a stamped 8-lug steel wheel (either aftermarket or modified "stock") that has been grafted to a 17" barrel???

I'd love to be able to use a stock set of hubcaps, and would really like to have the stock-appearing steel wheel but in the 17" diameter and with at least 5.5" of backspacing

I realize it's an odd request, and will probably be a one-off custom job but I'm curious if it would even be possible to cut out and use a 16.5" center in the larger barrel????

Thanks for any links or suggestions on who might be capable of doing this kind of project. Bonus points to anyone who can post a pic where this has already been done by someone else!

The problem is the std wheel blanks are straight accross and the center of a 16" or 16.5 isn't big enough to fit into a 17" wheel. I have talked to many different wheel builders and they all have said the same thing. I still ask and still look for other ways.

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Thanks.

My only other idea was to find an off-the-shelf plain-looking steel 17" wheel and try to figure out a mounting scheme to hang a stock hubcap on it somehow? Maybe just weld the retaining "bumps" from the stock wheel to the generic wheel.... Or create some kind of wireframe mount that would latch to a factory hubcap?

Re: 8 lug wheels - what's on YOUR truck?

Check this out, definitely an idea: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...60&postcount=6

Or maybe the centers from some old 17.5" wheels would fit some outer 17" rings. If you could find some plain 17" steel wheels you like it probably would be easiest to just weld some tabs on them.

Dodge actually has 17x7, 17x7.5 and 17x8 stock steel wheels with the 8x6.5" bolt pattern. The only problem is that they have huge backspacing. I think about 6"! So on the old trucks you΄d have to use spacers OR maybe you could "re-center" them for a little less backspacing.

The coolest would actually be to use the old center caps on these wheels somehow....

I saved the clips from my split wheels on my '67, along with the hubcaps. Someday, in my spare time () I hope to mount them on my later-model wheels and run the old caps.

Very cool! Thanks for sharing the pics. That would actually be a great way to mount the caps to newer wheels. Instead of drilling a hole for the rivet, I΄d probably spot weld the clips to the wheel instead though.

The H2 wheels and Chevy caps will be going on mine when I get to that point. I'll have a little different looking cap though. I'm trying to mimic the original hubcaps.
